Ely called it. I was surprised when I read about Troy and Valente. At least we get to keep Valente. If I ran a team, I'm not sure if I would use a 1/1 waiver claim on Troy this early in the off season but they must be planning to play him every day. Good luck George and Troy. Hope you all play well next season except against us. 😁

My 2025-26 Marlins offseason blueprint
Jose Herrera replied to Ely Sussman's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
I read that Eugenio Suarez is a free agent. We could use his pop and versatility. He can hit in the middle of the lineup and spilt time between 3b and DH. I would check in and see what he wants for 2 years.- 10 replies

Higher trade value: Braxton Garrett or Max Meyer?
Jose Herrera replied to Ely Sussman's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
I agree with One Regend that right now would not be the best time to trade either one. I think right now we have leverage regarding starting pitching. I could see us trading Sandy Alcantara before trading Braxton Garrett or Max Meyer. -
Should the Marlins entertain a reunion with Luis Arraez?
Jose Herrera replied to Kevin Barral's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
On a side note, why don't we teach Griffin Conine to play first and give Heriberto Hernandez a shot as an everyday outfielder? Griffin has never played first, but if we move him that should open up the DH for whoever we need that game. -
Should the Marlins entertain a reunion with Luis Arraez?
Jose Herrera replied to Kevin Barral's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
Potential lineup with him: 2b-Xavier Edwards (left) 1b-Luis Arraez (left) c-Agustin Ramirez (right) lf-Kyle Stowers (left) ss-Otto Lopez (right) cf-Jakob Marsee (left) 3b-Connor Norby (right) rf-Griffin Conine (left) DH-Eric Wagaman (right) It would be nice to have him back if he enjoyed playing in Miami. We do not have any serious first base prospects and he's already been successful in Miami. He is worth a look. I would expect the contract to be around 5 years for 10-12 million per year. This should allow enough time for us to draft or sign an international free agent and develop them. The only thing I would do first before pursuing it would be to ask Clayton McCullough's thoughts on adding him. If there is already good clubhouse chemistry and he thinks he won't much value, then call it off. -
Alec Burleson and Connor Norby played together at East Carolina University. The trade package I would like to see is: Cardinals get: Aiden May (22 Single-A) Dillon Head (21 Single-A) Jared Serna (23 Triple-A) Joe Mack (22 Triple-A) Karson Milbrandt (21 Double-A) Marlins get: Alec Burleson (26-MLB) Ivan Herrera (25-MLB) JoJo Romero (29-MLB) Sonny Gray (35-MLB) Marlins pay 35 of the remaining 40 million owed

5 realistic relievers for Marlins to target in free agency
Jose Herrera replied to Kevin Barral's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
Tommy, I thought it would be nice to add 2 of them to back up Calvin Faucher. Have some more options to close games. Consider that we play 162 games plus the playoffs if we make it. Spending 16-20 million on two solid arms will go a long way. If we cannot make the playoffs, teams will check in at the trade deadline. -
5 realistic relievers for Marlins to target in free agency
Jose Herrera replied to Kevin Barral's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
Great article Kevin. I think Devin Williams will sign with a big market team. However, Kenly Jansen, Kyle Finnegan and Raisel Iglesias are all good options. Their market value for contracts seems to be around 1-2 years for 8-10 million per year. -
Really intriguing. Great article Ely. I was wondering about rule 5 eligible players and noticed you had written an article about this in August. I've attached it. After reading it I think the Marlins should consider removing Michael Petersen and Tyler Zuber from our 40-man roster. I would then use the two available spots to add relief pitchers Josh White and William Kempner to protect them from the rule 5 draft. I would like to see if George Soriano and Josh Simpson can improve over the offseason but if Jesse Bergin and/or Dale Stanavich are close to MLB ready it may be time to move on as well. Position players Andrew Pintar and Jacob Berry also make interesting cases. Currently I'm not sure if adding Andrew Pintar would be a roster upgrade. He played well last season, but I would like to see him replicate it first before being added. As for Jacob Berry, I would add him and remove Jack Winkler. Jacob Berry has proved he still deserves a shot after the championship season he helped lead Jacksonville to. Plus, he is a former first round pick, switch hitter and versatile. Dax Fulton and Jared Serna are both players that could be removed if we add someone via free agency, trade or the rule 5 draft. I would like to know what you all think.

Way-too-early 2026 Marlins Opening Day roster projection
Jose Herrera replied to Isaac Azout's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
Hello everyone, Hope you all are doing well. Thank you for posting, Isaac. Paul Goldschmidt might demand around $10-12 million per year and playing time daily. In 2026 he will be 38 years old, and 4 seasons removed from his last All Star (NL MVP) season. With this in mind, the Marlins may try to target someone younger. Eric Wagaman, Heriberto Hernandez and Troy Johnston are all players that are controllable, have experience and are young. With more playing time one of them should be able to stick around until someone that is a better fit comes along. As for the rest of your predictions, I strongly agree. Barring a trade, a minor league free agent signing or a rule 5 pick that is how things should look.- 5 replies

Rangers hire Skip Schumaker as next manager
Jose Herrera replied to Ely Sussman's topic in Other Baseball
I wonder if Luis Urueta will serve as his bench coach again. -
Hello everyone, Hope you all are well. For me, 2025 was a pivotal year for the fish. It's not often you see a new FO, rookie manager and many fringe/rookie players come together and put together the season we did. Given we missed the playoffs, I'm happy with the season we had as we should have a rock-solid foundation to build on for next season. This season I really enjoyed watching Otto Lopez and Xavier Edwards establish themselves up the middle. It was also cool seeing Agustin Ramirez, Eric Wagaman, Kyle Stowers (All-Star) and much of our pitching progress as they had more playing time. Next season it will be intriguing to see what position players like Connor Norby, Griffin Conine, Heriberto Hernandez and Jacok Marsee can all do in a full season. As for players like Joey Weimer, Maximo Acosta, and Troy Johnston I'd like to see them stick around and get some playing time. I think if we pair them with Javier Sanoja and Liam Hicks our lineup should be fun to watch. I would also like to see Deyvison De Los Santos, Jacob Berry, Joe Mack, and Victor Mesa Jr. come up if they play well in the minors. Regarding the pitching, this was the perfect season for Eury Perez and Sandy Alcantara to come back. The team's expectations were not that high, which may have made it easier for them to work through their struggles and get better as the season went along. I feel good about them both and Edward Cabrera making quality starts for us next season. Something we should keep an eye on for next season is how the starting rotation is going to be filled out. Janson Junk did a phenomenal job filling in and Ryan Weathers showed promise. However, both Robby Snelling and Thomas White pitched very well in the minors. Should they continue I think they will earn an opportunity to be called up at some point next season. For me the bullpen was our biggest surprise and what our secret weapon this season. If it had not been for Anthony Bender, Cade Gibson, Calvin Faucher, Lake Bachar, Ronny Henriquez, Tyler Phillips and Valente Bellozo eating up innings and holding games we totally would have lost over 90 games. The bullpen's endurance and perseverance are what set up many of the awesome moments we had this season. Overall, I'm impressed with how Clayton McCullough and his coaches managed and the personnel that Peter Bendix and the FO brought in. Most games I watched this year were fun and the players seemed focused but relaxed. It should be interesting to see who sticks around and who we bring in via free agency this off season. Between all of cool giveaways, moments in the booth and in the stands, I think we are trending in the right direction and looking forward to seeing how we can continue to build on this. Let me know what you all think? -Jose
