  1. I think we are sitting pretty right now with all our pitching. I think Bendix is doing well by demanding a lot or no deal. I can go into the year as we are although a high leverage bullpen arm would look good. You win with the bullpen and playing 6 inning games before closing it out. First base is a position that will sort itself out. Just hoping Stowers and Marsee are what I hope they are. Go Fish!
  2. Very good observations. I, too, believe we can contend with this team as presently constituted. Our pitching is exceptionally deep, especially if Cabrera stays. By late May most things will iron themselves out with the young talent available. I know we did not sign a "closer" as I have hoped but our bullpen looks like a real strength and, frankly, I think Max Meyer will possibly fill that need. Looking forward to this year. First base will sort itself out.
  3. The Marlins #1 priority in the Rule 5 crapshoot has to be lefty bullpen help. That brings me to Hayden Mullins, but he better cut those walks down or back he goes.
  4. I agree. Do not spend money just to spend money. However, I did see that yesterday Ryan Helsley signed with Baltimore for 28M/2Yrs. He's one of the guys I wanted.
  5. These extension numbers are so frustrating and aggravating to me. All extension candidates can guarantee their financial future, but no it’s never enough. The agents are where the problem lies. It’s like the fans and players are at war and the agents are throwing oil on the fires. There is a Bobby Bonilla middle ground but no one is looking for it.
  6. By the way: If I could pick an inexpensive, under-the-radar pickup who I have liked for a long time, it might be Lane Thomas. Excellent defender and very good numbers against lefties. Only 30 years old.
  7. How dumb can you get. No way.
  8. 1. always liked Lewin Diaz. The no shift rule should help him. I see him as a platoon option and defensive player. Interesting possibility. 2. I do not want to lose Ryan Weathers. I see him as our fourth starter. 3. I see a Ryan Helsley addition as a MAJOR upgrade to an already deep bullpen. I think Michael Peterson is being overlooked. 4. I do not like either of our lefties in the bullpen and that needs to be upgraded. There are two roster spots for you to fill. 5. If Janson Junk is not a starter, he looks great as a long relief piece. 6. One thing I have learned in my 70+ years of watching baseball is PITCHING WINS! We have it. 7. I hate the Jose Quintana idea. 8. One last thought, as far as Coby Mayo goes, the jump from AAA to the majors is a very big one.
  9. Like Yarbrough. Like Keller. The fact that they did not waive Nardi is somewhat hopeful.
  10. Where does Max Meyer fit in? I think this guy has closer written all over him.
  11. Loved the thought process. I am going to hopefully enjoy this winter. I think Bendix MAY have a good handle on this. My biggest concern is that Sherman doesn’t get it.
  12. I see both part of this Marlins team. Garrett possibly 4th or 5th starter. Meyer sure looks like a closer to me. Meyer comes in and throws his fastball and slider and nothing else for one inning and out.
  13. Discussing roster spots and rule 5 protections can be fun, but I have decided to let Bendix do the thinking. I was not a fan and I still want Luzardo back but you cannot argue with the results. I am very much looking forward to how the winter goes and the start of next season. Go Fish!!!
  14. Blocking people is a concern. Spending for the sake of spending is dumb. However, spending for a righthanded, power bat to play first and maybe platoon with Johnston makes sense to me. I do not like Wagaman although McCullough seems to, and he is the one who counts. We will win or lose with pitching, which I feel is playoff potential. We just need middle of the road hitting for another fun season.
  15. Some thoughts: 1. The bullpen has become THE most important determinant of wins vs. losses in baseball. Play 6 inning games and then close them out. 2. Love our bullpen in general, but need left handed options. 3. Do not like Gibson yet. He seems afraid to throw strikes. He wants batters to get themselves out. His waste pitches are just that, wastes. His mental approach must and can change. 4. Really like Henriquez, Bender, Phillips and Peterson. Faucher and Bachar scare me but get outs. We have the makings of a very good bullpen. 5. Have never seen Josh White or Roa and am looking forward to seeing Josh Ekness. 6. Max Meyer may be the closer. 7. Must have two more lefty options. Nardi ?? Jose Alvarado ?? 8. Go Fish!!
  16. I never second guess trades. It is a long time before all information is gathered. However, I said at the time this is totally dumb and I think it is just getting dumber!! I WANT LUZARDO BACK. I ALSO WANT BURGER BACK!!
  17. All spring training I have been calling the Marlins a total dumpster fire. I officially rescind that. They appear to be a fun team and I am looking forward to their games. That's all I wanted. I don't expect a World Series title or even a playoff appearance, just somewhat competitive baseball. I still want Burger and Luzardo back. Go Marlins!!
  18. Very enjoyable four games. May not be the dumpster fire I expected. Baseball is still the world’s greatest game.
  19. I have to admit, these have been 3 fun games.
  20. You can win without spending giant bucks, but you cannot win without spending some bucks.
  21. Todays major league owners have to do this as a hobby. If this is how they make a living they are in the wrong business. We have the wrong guy! MLB has already watched the Miami market crater out. When will they do something?
  22. I like this guy. He apparently puts the bat on the ball. We need guys that do positive things and keep mistakes to a minimum. There are plenty of teams that will beat us this year. We can't beat ourselves.
  23. I did not see this poll before. 1. D. While it is possible the farm was improved (still to be determined) they have COMPLETELY given up any hope for a fun 2025. This was not necessarily needed. Keeping Burger and Luzardo and spending on a LF and C could have made this somewhat interesting. While Rome wasn't built in a day, rebuilds don't need to be done that quick either. 2. E. Easy question 3. E. Surprise......another easy question.
