I'm going to sound a lot like Alex Ligero, but I don't agree with the "but the Marlins are at least giving themselves a chance to compete down the stretch." I would say: "The Marlins expect/hope to keep competing by leaning on Caissie/Conine to provide Hicks-level production AND stay alive for the Wild Card race with a duct-taped rotation beyond Sandy and Eury." I get the "sustainable future" process, but the prospects acquired are more quantity than quality. Sure, some of them are pretty interesting, but none of them is expected to be an impactful starter... maybe Beck and probably (hopefully) Taylor. Hicks, on the other hand, is an impactful starter and should probably had made it to the ASG. I get it, I get the reasons for trading him. In fact, the Marlins got a bag for him, but you don't see any ambition to "go for it" now, or anytime soon anyway. Maybe the Marlins make this postseason, but only to lose during the first or second round. This is not an LCS team, period. Then the offseason comes, and we'll still be waiting for the big FA signing, which never happens. We then still hope Caissie turns into a 40-HR threat, Stowers can stay healthy and knock another 30. The rotation will hopefully look like Sandy-Eury-Max-Junk-Phillips, with us can't wait to see Snelling, White, and Sandy extended. Guess what? The Padres or White Sox are going to come with a "ridiculous package" for Alcántara and then he's gone. Then the same rhetoric of "the sustainable future" crap. Then they sign Quintana for 1-Year, $2,5 M to keep us interested. Early in the season, Junk needs TJ (God forbid). Snelling and White will be ready around June. By then it is too late, and here we go again: trading Otto, X, and Stowers, which is BS; they will be traded because they hit Arb years. They'd rather "restock" the farm and "do enough to keep fans interested". Like I said, a lot like that guy Ligero. It is just really frustrating to have a legitimate chance to be good and decide not to because you hope to be better next year and for years to come. The only teams doing that lately are LAD, NYY, ATL, HOU, and MIL. (2nd, 3rd, 6th, 8th, and 19th in payroll budget this year). Javel. I hope Alex and I are wrong.
