  1. True, there is the possibility of jumping the gun (Scott Kingery for example), but it would be nice to see the Marlins trying. This does give me the opportunity to make one more point. I think they need to try to extend Alcantara should he demonstrate, as I expect, that he is again healthy. This guy could have hung out by the pool this summer, but instead he was at the park every day. Not five feet away from him were Perez and Cabrera. I think he is very important to maximize their development. You could be getting three for the price of one. It is so important to build around good people. The Marlins may be trying my patience, but even they cannot kill my game.
  2. It would have been too much to expect the Marlins to have done that on their own. Better yet would be an article that the Marlins locked up Edwards for 6-7 years now when they have negotiating room. Wake me up when something like that happens.
  3. I understand rebuilds and the Marlins farm needed upgrades but while you are building you still have to have FUN. The Burger deal infuriated me. He is a major leaguer. If any of the guys we got for him make the big leagues we will be lucky. He had four years of control. Give him a seven year, team friendly contract and he will play for you for seven years. Maybe he hits 3rd or 4th for a couple of years and then 6th or 7th or his contract can eventually be moved because it is reasonable but he will add to the FUN for a while. I enjoy watching young players develop as well as the next guy, perhaps even more. Watching minor league teams that just cannot score is NOT FUN!!!
  4. Did you read what you just wrote. You are building your lineup around Xavier Edwards (who I also really like), Otto Lopez and Jonah Bride. Enough said.
  5. I am officially done with these guys. Sherman and Bendix can both take a hike. Trading one of your better hitters and painfully few power bats for three A and AA players, who will probably have to buy a ticket to get into their next major league ballgame, means we will be completely non-competitive this entire year. I wonder what Sandy is thinking. Probably "get me outta here". Wake me up when we actually have a major league team. I have been watching baseball religiously for over 70 years. If they can lose me, they can lose anybody.
  6. I am getting more than a little upset that we are not giving Mr. Johnston a chance. I would love an explanation of what is going on and not the tired, old these guys know what they are doing.
  7. I absolutely agree. My point is we need new ownership so we can look a little higher. I do not want Juan Soto, although I do think we can be competitive with reasonable upgrades. The winter can be fun if you have some hope of being somewhat financially competitive.
  8. Talking about John Brebbia and not being able to talk about Juan Soto is not a good thing.
  9. I always enjoy these obviously premature discussions. So, in that vein, I would like to see more love for Valente Bellozo. The radar gun does him no favors but he battles every time out. Conine and Stowers are the same guy. Whoever cuts their K's first wins. I like Dane Myers as a 4th outfielder. We are stacked in the infield. Nick Fortes can be a great #2 catcher but we need a #1 (not Agustin's time yet). Jonah Bride surprised the hell out of me. Looking forward to our real pitching staff coming back. Our biggest problem is Jeffrey Sherman. He is a fish out of water. Derek Jeter sold him a bill of goods then jumped ship. He seriously overpaid for the team and now can't get out of it. His assets are nowhere near enough and MLB needs to do something to get him out. The Miami market has to be competitive.
