  1. I see Xavier Edwards leading off and a whole lot of guys who should be hitting 6th, 7th or 8th. I could live with the pitching staff if Sandy stays (not likely) and if Luzardo were still here. I don't want to see what good pitchers will do to Jesus Sanchez without any protection in the line-up. I fear they will eat him for lunch.
  2. Pardon the pun but Sherman is a fish out of water. Today's fiscal situation is so screwed up that an owner has to treat the team as a hobby, not a business. We have the wrong guy.
  3. I do not see Patrick Corbin anywhere here. He is probably getting cheaper by the day. He finished strong last year and adding another lefty to create stability for only the beginning of this year before hopefully moving him seems like a good idea to me. Small risk, possible reward.
  4. I do not see anything about the outfield. Maybe nobody will ever hit one to the outfield and we won't need one? I realize that hope springs eternal, but these guys look like a dumpster fire.
  5. WOW. Those line-ups are awful. Everyone has to be able to put the ball in play, know how to bunt and run like hell. I have never liked being Goliath. I have always preferred teams that are more like David and overperformed but even David had a slingshot. Where's my slingshot?
  6. Actually the Marlins do not have a terrible bullpen although they do lack big names. Things will have to break well but Faucher was pretty good and did well as a closer. I like Nardi and Bender can be good ( if he ever figures out that it is OK to throw a strike on 0-2). Cronin, Curry, Veneziano, Tinoco all may have gotten some confidence that they can do it. I think Meyer will find a prominent place there. Go-Suk Wood had something that attracted scouts. Let's see if he can find it again.
  7. I actually like this signing. They clearly aren't going to hit many home runs. Contact hitting, running and defense. Let's see what happens. I still hate Bendix.
  8. After 70 years of watching my game this is possibly the least hopeful of having an enjoyable year as I have ever had. Even 1963 when the Mets were terrible, I went in hopeful of maybe beating the Houston Colt-45s or if we had a great year even the Cubs and finishing eighth. You need a goal. I have no goals this year. Peter Bendix DOES NOT understand this and Jeffery Sherman hired this clown because he also does not get it. I'll continue to watch because it still is baseball but these guys must go. A good start is the least of their problems.
  9. They do have the opportunity for long term, team friendly, win-win contracts (Xavier Edwards?) when they identify people who can play. That’s why I wanted Jake Burger. The problem is I doubt they will do it. This management is awful and won’t spend a dime. The Tampa Bay model is to trade people before they want $250M. I actually agree with that. Sandy is the only one who may come under that concept.
  10. Oh WOW. Who would have bet on that?
  11. Luzardo is gone. Take a deep breath
  12. The marlins need someone. Quintana is clearly the best on the list. Use him and move him. I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but I am OK with Patrick Corbin. He finished strong last year. The Marlins have to spend some money sometime, don't they? Might as well be Quintana.
  13. The operative term is "acquired cheaply". Am I seeing a pattern here?
  14. As sorry as I am for Mr. Garrett this just does not come as a surprise. I had my fingers crossed but never expected him to be able to pitch this year. Very little was done to address his issues last year except hope they went away. The surprise would have been that Bendix did something to prepare for this eventuality.
  15. From your mouth to god's ears. I wish us luck. But I'm not holding my breath
  16. Well that default line-up is absolutely woeful. It is possible that Jacksonville can have a very good year. Matt Mervis has never hit anything in the major leagues and Stowers has yet to show me he can catch up to a fastball. I want Jake Burger back and some money spent on something resembling a left fielder. I could possibly watch that line-up. I am really getting to hate Bendix. Now the pitching staff with some good health could have been very much fun. With Luzardo we would have had an excellent starting staff capable of winning on any night. Of course Garrett would need to be able to lift his left arm above his shoulder. Max Meyer has bullpen (perhaps closer) written all over him. Still interesting. I don't think I have disliked a GM more than Bendix since George Weiss traded Nolan Ryan for Jim Fregosi. They say give us 2-3 years. We are fixin' to spend some money at the right time. Don't hold you breath.
  17. The big story right now seems to be can the Marlins possibly get their payroll to $105M to justify MLB GIVING them $70M in competitive balance money which they are required to spend. The answer at this moment is NO. I am not saying Sherman is a serial killer. I am saying he has no business owning a baseball team. GET HIM OUTTA HERE please.
  18. The one thing that strikes me is that the marlins MAY have some concerns about Luzardo's health. This cannot possibly be the best they could do for a healthy Luzardo. They may not have wanted to let him pitch to demonstrate this. ???
  19. By the way, I was not opposed to moving Jesus Lozardo, but if either of the guys we got get into a major league game without a ticket I will be surprised.
  20. WOW!! A story on what bad contracts we can possibly acquire. If that doesn't tell you something about this ownership..............
  21. I agree. A killer rotation and especially a bullpen with an average offense is doable. That's why you lock down a Xavier Edwards and Jake Burger to be around bigger bats. When you have years of control and negotiating strength, use it.
  22. True, there is the possibility of jumping the gun (Scott Kingery for example), but it would be nice to see the Marlins trying. This does give me the opportunity to make one more point. I think they need to try to extend Alcantara should he demonstrate, as I expect, that he is again healthy. This guy could have hung out by the pool this summer, but instead he was at the park every day. Not five feet away from him were Perez and Cabrera. I think he is very important to maximize their development. You could be getting three for the price of one. It is so important to build around good people. The Marlins may be trying my patience, but even they cannot kill my game.
  23. It would have been too much to expect the Marlins to have done that on their own. Better yet would be an article that the Marlins locked up Edwards for 6-7 years now when they have negotiating room. Wake me up when something like that happens.
