    Good dude. Right back at him for his personal success and for the Astros. I can definitely root for them over any of the likely WS-capable teams in either league.

    The PH homers were the fun if the night. The Marlins and their fans can't expect to win every remaining game, especially against one of the league's best teams. Keep an even keel, as they used to say. Quantrill is a pitch-to-contact guy, so the defense must be on this evening.

    Ely brought up the Jacob Berry situation on the Sunday evening call-in show (8/3). I also thought Berry was a possible first base candidate, especially if Wagaman gets a reset assignment to Jacksonville. Some players counterintuitively overachieve in the Show vis-à-vis their minor league performances. We might apply that to Heriberto Hernández right now, and several players come to mind from my Expos fandom days. I have a feeling that Berry might be one of those rare cases, too, and I'd like to see it.

    I join with many others positing the adage that some of the best moves are ones not made. These next two months may be quite entertaining and certainly (for most) unexpected.

    I am definitely in the "sad to see him go" category for Sánchez. He had a certain je ne sais quoi along with his ubiquitous smile. Still, Marcee was ready with Conine in the wings. We didn't even expect Heriberto Hernández, either. The Astros are a team I can pull for in the American League, as it appears the Rays are no longer contenders. I wouldn't mind the 'Stros with Jeezy or the Jays in the World Series. That would mean the Yankees and Red Sox are out, happy occurrences in any season.

    Maybe Berry should change the spelling of his first name, Marsee-esque, to Jakob. 😆

    I'd have no problem with Sánchez garnering a WS ring with the Astros, because that means no title for the Dodgers, Yankees, Phillies, or Mets. In other words, a good season.

    I'd like to be the Marlins PR team, writing about not trading either Alcántara or Cabrera: "We are delighted with the progress our young, aggressive core has achieved. We are in the Wild Card hunt, and we want Sandy and Edward to lead a strong finish this season. Miami, your team is playing great baseball!" Oh, well. Trading one or both won't deter the enthusiasm I have. For many Marlins fans, though, leaving the team substantially intact is balm on a wound. Start now with that healing.

    Complaining about the Marlins' aggressive base play is misplaced. It's an integral part of the team identity that shouldn't be tampered with because of an unsuccessful inning or two.

    That is an excellent idea. My response is the proverbial "why not?" If De Los Santos is not ready, Johnston isn't getting a shot, and it's not the next position experiment for Jacob Berry, let's go with Heriberto. If Sánchez is traded, Marsee is likely the callup, which makes the first base idea even better. The dude has truly earned more playing time with his big (clutch) hits.
