MLB can't get of its own way. We watched nearly 1000 missed pitches last week. But...only two challenges that must be meted out strategically, while the entire viewing world sees the impact errors. Games, though, are nevertheless played with overt errors. Replay is often a sad joke. Do we even need to state what the upcoming CBA will produce? The two sides are drawing irreconcilable lines in the sand. Think there will be baseball in 2027? Where do you think the compromise will be that over half the league can swallow and still survive in any realistic, competitive way?

MLB's replay, ABS, and in-game accountability are all 🐴💩. There's plenty of discretion built in to the rules, but lacking in some areas. No replay. I agree with Sanoja's take. Earlier this year, I heard the Tigers broadcast analyst describe how batter counts shape everything, that is, game outcomes. We watch entirely correctable in-game situations every game, fussing impotently. The technology is there, unapplied.

It's nice that the MiLB affiliates are on MLB.tv and the free Bally's app.

Yes, surely the roster expansion will include De los Santos., whether Stowers has returned or not. A month of evaluative action is paramount for planning or trade value. As I am in the 2027-lost-or-significantly-truncated" camp, September becomes even more important for both the team and the player's career, to my mind.

I think the Marlins brass figures a WC slot is quite a long shot. I have no problem with their patchwork solution, but two-thirds of the triumvirate are offense-challenged, supercharged by traditional positional standard. Oh, well, it's a ten-day stint as of now. Perhaps DDLS or Long will be a September call-up, Stowers having returned or not.

That the CBA requires changes is my hope, because there is no other option. However, the only reasons changes will be enacted revolve around funding. That is, more revenue sharing and, likely, a league-wide TV package. So, we, as Marlins fans (and the fans of more than half the teams in the league) hope the CBA provides the new money framework for more on-field competitiveness. As with any budget, it's nonsense without the income. The RSN collapse has exacerbated the problem just as the labor agreement looms. This is a redline situation. That urgency doesn't bode well for a normal season in 2027, if there is one at all. Of course, this reading of the situation could be entirely inaccurate, and the owner - MLBPA negotiations might be resolved amicably. You think?

I tend to agree with the article premise for three reasons. The Marlins have positioned themselves quite well going into the CBA - because they had to. It's a team-friendly roster composition of absolute sustainability because the new framework, simply put, is a final opportunity to correct the MLB ecosystem after the devastating RSN collapse. Once settled, Bendix has the flexibility to move in any direction. Any playoff possibility has emerged as a longshot with 49 games remaining. Of course, anything can happen. Still, the strength of the NL this year portends one WC spot is realistically competitive. We're not overtaking the Phillies or Cubs. It's Lloyd Christmas' "so you're telling me there is a chance." Finally, none of the deadline moves were irreplaceable pieces, reflected a primarily financial component, or disrupted the overall excellent team chemistry. I think the article title properly sums up the team's middling position vis-á-vis any postseason hopes (light), while incrementally continuing to improve awaiting the (hopefully) salvific CBA. There's no where else to go until the agreement is settled. Too many long-term problems are systemic, that is, out of the control of the team entirely. I am weary of drawing to inside straights and being labeled with some form of inane "surprisingly competitive" balderdash from the ridiculous media parrots.

Another notch in Bendix's belt. We don't talk about the FA side of things.

I think we see a flurry of moves from the Jax and Miami rosters. The last two months of the season won't be contending, but should have new faces. Morever, as a 2027 season is iffy, we should enjoy the baseball for its own sake. Could be the longest off-season ever.

I certainly expect Fairbanks and his money to go. Five or six others in packages, especially Garrett, Ramírez, and a MLB roster player. With Stowers ensconced at first, it does appear Hicks' peak value will be too tempting.

Marlins snap losing streak in walk-off fashion
THOMAS JOSEPH replied to Kevin Barral's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
Perhaps, it was just time. The baseball gods had extracted enough payback, if you like. Or, up against Wheeler and Duran (genuflect), baseball's so often manifested counterintuitive vibe shined through. Now, the team having exorcised its curse for the perfect game disrespect, could goes on to a decent finish without any hoped-for major additions. Looking at the schedule and current positioning, there's no reason to add. Too many teams to keep over means Bendix will continue to pursue incremental improvement. Figure a nice batch of players will be moved from both the Jax and Miami rosters to the end of the disciplined incremental improvement strategy.- 4 replies

I think a buying strategy is drawing to an inside straight. Fans might like it, but it's a slim payoff opportunity. Regarding the goodwill of payroll increases, certainly the Marlins rightfully have little stock in that. The CBA vitriol is deep and there's no satisfying the MLBPA whatsoever when it comes to the Marlins, regardless of the reality of their financial situation. Everything to the Association is/would be "a long-overdue start." So, no need to pander to them at all. In addition, the CBA negotiation itself presents the redline ecosystem change opportunity. The RSN collapse is the proverbial last straw for over half the league to force a massive change. Until that certainty is present via a signed deal, the Marlins (in keeping with Millerick's theme) truly are in the rocking chair. This is because Bendix has positioned the budget so well while improving the on-field performance AND the farm system. Quite a successful triumvirate in his short tenure, bordering on remarkable. To my mind, the 2027 season will be significantly disrupted or truncated, even to the point of an entirely lost season. When half of the league is truly up against the wall financially and fans grow weary of their teams fighting with such massive handicaps, there cannot be a rollover CBA. Accordingly, taking all these things and the team's fall to earth in consideration, no one should anticipate any deadline game-changers for the current season. But, I wager Bendix will still make a flurry of moves, in keeping with his disciplined incremental improvement strategy. Something on the lines of six or seven players from the system as a whole, including 40-man roster guys like Ramírez, Garrett, and/or Hernández.
