  1. Feeling great, so it's counterintuitive time. Giants sweep. MVP is Wilmer Flores.
  2. The Braves have weathered the storm and win 2 games to 1. MVP - Riley
  3. Sorry to add a bit more to the rant, but... "Cade's been great for us and with Kepler coming back up there at that particular time in the game, Kepler's third time coming up, just liked that matchup there to get Cade in the game and have him and a run of hitters to give him the best chance to get us out of that particular inning," Horseshit.
  4. Just freaking takes the air right out of fans in a season that needs some g.d. air in it.
  5. What's up, guys? I returned from Brazil late Wednesday, slept a ton, and was anxious to see my first Marlins game in a few months on Thursday night! I tried to keep up with FOF posts and other social media. Anyway, Cabrera did not disappoint! I am saddened that he was removed with such a head of steam. Boring, predictable, and uninspiring. Things will never improve in the per-start innings department if we continue to adhere mindlessly to analytics. Challenge these guys, for crying out loud. Checking the data screen before taking a freaking leak is boring, especially with a developing team that needs to stretch, learn, and adapt. What is the goal - to finish 22 games under .500 instead of 25? Again, uninspiring, boring, tedious, and unproductive. There's so much fertile soil here with some young firecrackers trying to establish themselves, but this g.d. limp-wristed, seemingly petrified-of-challenges crap chips away at my interest in baseball. Speaking of timidity, will our pitchers and field management ever develop some cajones? Heaven forbid we move someone off the plate.
  6. Marlins win series 2-1. MVP: Lopez. Be back in the U.S. in late June. Go Fish!
  7. Hold the fort down, guys. I'm leaving right after Easter for Brazil. Be back towards the end of June. Let's keep up the progress. Go Fish!
  8. This young, hungry, and hustling team is having a blast out there. Of course, it's early. We all know the marathon season looms, and additional injuries can't be avoided. In the meantime, let's enjoy the progress and the overachievements. Is anyone feeling a lot better about things? How about a wager that the Marlins are MLB's "cost per win" leader?
  9. Bodes well, especially for a team that needs offensive sparks. Accordingly, we should all expect another rather "fluid" roster year.
  10. With the pundits calling for the Nationals, I predict the Marlins will sweep the series. MVP: Dane Myers
  11. I suppose it has to be Wags. Bride performed well last year and should have some cred for it.
  12. Interesting all the difference numbers. SpoTrac shows $87m, including benefits.
  13. The Guerrero, Jr. deal is a serious mistake, one which will be a Cabrera-esque millstone around the Jays' team neck. With all of their whiffs in the FA market (and subsequent fan discontentment), it was ludicrously predictable that Toronto would vastly overpay. The amount and length of the deal are proof that fear of loss rules the MLB executive suites despite heavily skewed data against such inane commitments. Although Toronto might be able to afford such a millstone now, I wager this contract will be one of the top five or so in buyer's remorse. Investing this sum and term in a one-dimensional (with all due respect to his offense) player who represents 1/26th of a team is not wise.
  14. Hate this, but I will also go with a 2-1 Mets series win, largely because of Sandy's understandable absence. I will go with Brandon Nimmo as MVP once again.
  15. I add my puzzlement to Quantrill's early exit, given his pitch count, MLB starter experience, and rather thin bullpen. Are the Marlins concerned about confidence? I'm pleased with his very reasonable acquisition, I just cannot understand this obligatory tentativeness with starters. How will anyone ever stretch, plow through the dreaded third time through the lineup, and upgrade the players' own expectations of what constitutes satisfactory performances for MLB starting pitchers. The "quality start" is a measure of mediocrity. We must return to starters who can pace themselves with a pitching-to-contact strategy, The velocity conundrum (injury proclivity) and five-inning blowout pitch counts are starkly apparent league problems. These are juxtaposed over the multi-generational league BA and BAbip, that are hardly improving. Home runs and strike outs, and that's pretty much it despite offensive rule advantage changes. The NFL realized QB protection was paramount, but baseball experts believe velocity is the only effective pitching quality, despite the injury toll for the sport's pitching talent.
  16. Marlins take the series 2 games to 1. MVP: Stowers
  17. Mets win the series, 2 games to 1. MVP is Nimmo.
  18. I agreed with Carver's Gillispie comments on Sunday's X live stream (3/30). Without tangential commentary regarding the reasons for such a strategy, Bendix and the Marlins have a successful approach to low-risk, low-cost player acquisitions. Gillispie might be another, in the Otto Lopez vein, and it's prescient as the team faces another round of starting pitching injuries. PS - Carver is likeable, and is zealous in his niche. My daughter was listening to the show and commented on his somewhat staccato delivery. She said he "seems passionate" but asked "didn't he say the same thing four times," even using the same words? Well, I said, "yeah, he does that." An "outsider's" perception is often interesting and revealing. I must remember the spelling for "Gillispie." I want to turn the second "i" into an "e" every time. Had to edit this comment to fix that.
  19. Only four games in, yet the opening series brings smiles and hope. A young, hustling team can overachieve, growing together as a unit with their coaches. Players are aware of the universal low expectations which is ample fuel for that overachievement. Now, let's ambush the Mets. PS - Dane Myers is in Miami to stay, so let's get him a proper baseball number!
  20. Certainly hard to disagree regarding the rotation and injuries. The Marlins' recent experiences perhaps even exceed the league -wide problem. So, it's likely other teams will continue the trend along with the Marlins. Keeping Stowers after his rough spring must revolve around the team's dearth of power options. But, I think power from Conine, Norby, and Mervis will also exceed the low expectations most pundits have. Team performance low-pressure should prevail in the clubhouse. I realize each player has career ramifications. But for the players and the coaches, there can hardly be another team that should be playing loose this season. How will that translate?
  21. I'm pleased the Marlins opted to affirm Stowers. Given the alternatives, the team didn't have all that much to lose anyway. Of course, he could still go south, but we badly need his power. We shouldn't discount the confidence boost his walk-off will provide.
  22. Get well wishes for Timmy Hutton. I remember him best as a former Expo. I try not to think about the Phillies. Lol.
