It's just too much for the Marlins to pay for a cup of dang coffee. It's worse than Starbucks. Ely, I don't know what's going on with this team. They can't trade: Jazz gone for a catcher who only has value if he can catch ... and he can't.? Luzardo gone at lowest value point so we can talk about paying EVEN MORE for an arm like Corbin, Quintana or Heany?? It's madness.
The Salas family must hold hands around the dinner table each night and give praise to the Marlins. Jose signed for millions in 2019 (and proved to be a bust) and now Andrew has received even more millions despite a similar profile to Jose.
Well, Jesus Luzardo has a higher ceiling than any of them and will likely be cheaper. His trade was inexplicable, especially since he would have likely increased his market value as well.
Let's get this right. Knowing that the team would be missing a starter in Garrett, knowing that the Luzardo was likely to be one of the best values out there at $6 million, knowing that the team had to spend $105 million in payroll, they STILL traded Luzardo for nothing?
No surprise whatsoever on Garrett's surgery. His dilemma was telegraphed by the total absence of reporting on his progress - or lack of it. Giving away Luzardo appears even more foolish now ... if that's possible. The Marlins got no benefit from that deal other than saving six or seven million. Starlyn Cabs won't ever cut it. He's Nasim Nunez without the wheels. Should have just kept Nunez.
What you don;t do if you want fans is trade a top ten lefty starter in the game (Jesus Luzardo) for Nasim Nunez (that's Starlyn Caba). Luzardo is a local guy, a great guy, and struck out over 200 batters in 2023.
I guess you can dream on Alcantara's performance in 2022, but in 2023, prior to his injury, he was certainly no better than the rest of the rotation. If all the starters are healthy this season, any one of them could be the statistical leader of the staff.
None of the projected OF guys are impressive, but Stowers looked really bad in particular. Perhaps nine or ten of the predicted pitchers will land on the opening day roster.
I couldn't put Burger anywhere near Jazz, who brings speed and an excellent glove (at least at 2b) to the table.. I feel certain that the Marlins will deeply regret trading Jazz (and hiring Bendix). Parting with Luzardo will prove to be another boondoggle I believe.
I have some hope for Snelling as the best of the lot. He could be another Weathers if he finds a little more velocity. His FIP after joining the Fish last season was 2.76.
Yes, another exceptionally bad trade. Luzardo is just a year removed from being a top twenty starter in all of baseball and acknowledges that he is as healthy as ever. Caba is a waste of time in all liklihood. Great gloves that can't produce offensively are plentiful.
I'm thinking that Snelling and Jacob Miller could stake claims to the rotation by midseason if needed. I'm casting a no vote for Bellozo and a very doubtful for Mazur.
My surprise pitchers of the year are Robby Snelling and Ryan Weathers. Adam Laskey is a sleeper that has caught my attention. He will easily land in my top ten prospects. Ramirez and De Los Santos will not.
Per baseballtradevalues (and I agree with this one) Xavier Edwards has by far the most trade value of any Marlin position player and is comparable to Eury Perez at the very top. His value was also two or three times higher than Burger.
In the past offseason, Luzardo's value to the Cubs would have been multiple top five prospects, perhaps including Caissie AND Alcantara
The Marlins are now in position to set an all-time record for the fewest homeruns for a season by a franchise..
