  1. OOps, I'm two weeks early on Mother's Day. The Marlins have my mind all stirred up.
  2. Otto Lopez produced more in a single week at Jacksonville than Dane produced in a month! Despite the fact that Lopez was the hottest bat in the world, he barely got playing time after being called up. Look at today's lineuip. Brujan is there at third while Lopez sits. Actually, Lopez produced more in the ninth inning yesterday than Brujan has produced all season. Interesting (well, troubling) note on the five hitters at the bottom of the Marlins Mother's Day Lineup. They have a combined 9 rbi for the season. The pink bats seem appropriate.
  3. The many grounders are a function of swinging at pitches out of the zone and a refusal to hit to the opposite field.
  4. I will add another handicap the Marlins are surrendering every night. Most of the teams the Marlins have faced have been pretty selective about the pitches they swing at. That results in plenty of walks. Marlin hitters, up and down the lineup, hack at everything. The fact that the Marlins are dead last in baseball when it comes to drawing free passes reflects directly on the coaching staff.
  5. Moving up baserunners by sacrifice bunt is a lost art apparently. So is scoring runs, at least for the Marlins. There is only so much a manager can do other than setting a lineup and changing pitchers. The managers that have always impressed me most are those who take advantage of a lead off hit or walk by having the next hitter drop down a bunt. As far as bunting goes, the Marlins have at least four regulars who should be bunting for hits as well. Chisholm, Gordon, Brujan and Anderson could all help their averages by chalking up a couple bunt hits each week. The entire lack of focus on small ball at a time there simply isn't any long ball, leaves me shaking my head.
  6. Luis Arraez. The one-tool player enjoys some renown for back-to-back batting titles, a stat that used to matter more to fans. The Marlins won't get much but should be working to move him right away. Jesus Luzardo should have been dealt in the off season when he really had some air under his wing. As Carole King sang, "It's too late, baby." Jesus Sanchez. Loved this guy for his potential the last couple years. Now he's on my fold-em list. De La Cruz. A team like Pittsburgh or Oakland might surrender a middling prospect for him. Jazz Chisholm. I no longer see a star there. Fold him. Hand center field to Mesa Jr. Tanner Scott. History.
  7. Bendix, in arguably his biggest initial move, signed Tim Anderson for $5M in the hope (dream) that he would return to his younger, more productive self. Anderson blew the opportunity to make about $12M this season via a White Sox option exercise after a dismal .245, .286, .253, .582 showing in 2023, Anderson has been nothing but consistent in 2024. .229, .264, ,253, .577. Nothing but bad. So, hold him or fold him? I think Bendix has a better option of his own making in Tristan Gray. The biggest knocks on him are that he strikes out over 30% of the time and doesn't walk. Thing is, Anderson has been whiffing and not walking at similar rates. Other thing is, Gray has 9 homers and 20 rbi. Anderson has gone homerless and knocked in 4 runs. The Marlins need to score more. Gray can help with that.
  8. I believe in Sixto! For me, his start makes this the most interesting game of the year. I'm not necessarily expecting him to be great vs. the Atlanta lineup, but I have a feeling he will become a regular part of the rotation very soon.
  9. So you pitch him anyway? Whatever the case, Puk's pitching contributed to my illness.
  10. So. we ignore Patrick Monteverde's excellent pitching and call up Munoz, who has been absolutely brutalized at Jacksonville. We need another Bendix press conference to discuss that! Then again, it would make even less sense after Peter tried to talk.
  11. So now Puk's 4-seamer is 91-92 mph? What happened to the 94-95?
  12. Another joyless outing for our top prospect, who is currently the system's third best pitcher named White.
  13. The stadium would be full and viewership up about a thousand percent. And if we gave her the MLB minimum, that would be ten times more money than she'll earn in the WNBA this season! (She would draw more walks than most on the current Miami roster.)
  14. The Shrimp are having a good year!
  15. Marlins don't lose this series. 2-2 for a split. MVP Swanson
  16. The Marlins donated $5 million to Anderson with the hope that he would upgrade the SS position this year by improving on his MLB-worst offensive and defensive stats of last year. His production has been virtually identical to last year.
  17. The Marlins are free to play games and so is Meyer. He ought to just demand a trade. The team is screwing with the young player's career. How does this effect his chances of making ROY or All Star status? His salary is based on such things once he reaches arbitration.
  18. Love the little sparkplugs like Otto and Xavier Edwards. Contact and speed. Too bad about that foot infection for Edwards - he could have made a difference in the first 10 percent of the season. I'm as high on Cabrera as you are low. I think he will be the team's top starter this year. Meyer looks super solid. Rogers is coming on. Garrett doesn't walk anybody. And my most controversial call ... want to see Sanchez back as a starter.
  19. What have I missed on Sixto? Why hasn't he pitched in the last week?
  20. The two high level prospects got shelled the last couple nights. Lots of walks and well-concealed talent on display.
  21. Anderson's BABIP is a ridiculous .412 thus far for the Marlins! He is actually striking out at a much higher rate than last year.
  22. With Brujan, there really isn't even a conversation. Take a hard look at Anderson and you'll see he's performing just as he did last season. Soft contact, when he actually makes some contact, is his forte.
