  1. Enjoyed the article and glad the team performed/overachieved so you had the opportunity to do so. To my mind, a more than successful season. It's inspirational.
  2. I think generally you are right. But I figure it's like a stew with lots of ingredients making up the final taste. Perhaps McCullough is the right temperament for this group, which, given his learning curve in the job, puts him on the plus side of contributions/makes him a necessary ingredient.
  3. Baseball might as well have an opera that transforms La donna è mobile (Woman is fickle) into Il lanciatore di rilievo è volubile - non pagatelo (The relief pitcher is fickle - don't pay him). 😆 [Thanks, Google translator. I only knew the opera's Italian title and translation!]
  4. It was easier to predict that the series MVP would be "someone silly" since Harper and Turner are out, and there's no reason to pitch to Schwarber (put,of course, we do anyway). Accordingly, there is Sosa, just off the IL, so his dismantling of the Fish qualifies as "silly" in my book.
  5. A rookie manager with a young staff growing together with their young, feisty team. I don't put much stock in the MOY by any means, but it is a nice acknowledgement of the team's overachievement, as the manager is credited for it.
  6. I reiterate the foolishness of paying this kind of money for what is little more than a crapshoot.
  7. Generally, I am a traditionalist, but this is toothpaste already out of the tube. Most definitely do not like the limited challenge implementation. It's another decision and strategy layer, albeit small. The full ABS implementation is obviously necessary for MLB credibility, as demonstrated by various umpire scoring sites showing hundreds and hundreds of pitches called incorrectly. It is amazingly difficult, true, but the "just get the call right" mantra applies, as it takes the game outcome away from the participants. Teams spend $3 - $4 million per win, and yet, despite the technology that is visible and able to correct the problem now,
  8. Phillies sweep. Somebody stupid will be the MVP. Lol. Let's go with Bader.
  9. It is clear progress in the farm system and overachieving at the top - a solid year, to my mind.
  10. Peterson and Soriano. Still evaluating at this very late date or necessary work distribution?
  11. I observed the signs being flashed from the dugout, thinking, us this a new system? I suppose Fortes didn't need the help, but as he's been gone a while now, I didn't recall seeing it before.
  12. Beautiful afternoon to watch Alcántara cruising through the middle innings and the Marlins hitters keeping their collective feet on the gas pedal (which proved to be quite important). Three series remaining to cement a pleasantly overachieving season. Go Fish and Go Shrimp!
  13. Rangers sweep and MVP is Duran (because I like his scoreboard presentation).
  14. I was truly enjoying the game when the rain came, switched over to the Braves-Nationals, then fell asleep. I had to watch the condensed game. The final score surprised me because Eury was so thoroughly dominating the Rockies.
  15. I suppose it's an easy or lazy response to long-term competitiveness that low- and mid-revenue teams must concentrate on "drafting and development." Well, sure, but these things aren't AI. They require competent people, the identification and hiring of whom has a whole range of metrics. My beloved Expos were indeed a talent factory (many if whom ended up elsewhere due to the same financial pressures low- revenue teams still face). The people that made it happen don't grow on trees, nor are they easy to lure over. Success, if it comes, means the big teams want the guys, and they are always watching with deep pockets to make it happen. Accordingly, many big FO names made their bones in Montréal, getting their chances, and moving on. This reality will not be mitigated. Until/if MLB has the unlikely cap/floor or similar revamp, low- revenue teams are locked in this narrow reality to compete. I think Bendix and his team, starting with little, have earned a thumbs up.
  16. I think our "Flint Mega Bowl" is edging out the Braves for third place with less than half the payroll. Will the Marlins lead the league in lowest cost per win?
  17. Adds to my interest in the upcoming Arizona Fall League. Thanks for the composition.
  18. There's an interesting dynamic in baseball epitomized by the despondency of Mets fans right now. They've underachieved, given their payroll, especially. Still, they're in the playoffs (most likely) where the regular season doesn't rule. On the other hand, fans of the Marlins see solid progress (perhaps a 20% win increase), emerging positional depth, an improved farm system, and (fingers crossed) a third-place overachieving finish the hated Braves. As only one team will ultimately win, many fans will view otherwise nice seasons as failures, certainly nany big-spending teams. My picks for the off-season pity parties: Phillies, Yankees, Mets, and Dodgers. Truly delightful, if my book!
  19. I This article is somewhat serendipitous for me, referring to the only 20-game winner in Marlins history. A few days ago, looking through a huge box of baseball cards hauled out of storage, I ran across one for the only such pitcher in Expos history - Ross Grimsley (he of the epochal 1970s perm).
  20. Watched this game and was rewarded with another dose of optimism for the Marlins future starting staff.
  21. I concur that retaining Cabrera was the right move. Even with his proclivity for injury, he's still cheap. If we assume the trade deadline offers were light, Bendix had an easy call, to my mind.
  22. Boring and uninspiring series. I skipped Wednesday's in favor of a Louisville Bats game. Glad I did.
