  1. I observed the signs being flashed from the dugout, thinking, us this a new system? I suppose Fortes didn't need the help, but as he's been gone a while now, I didn't recall seeing it before.
  2. Beautiful afternoon to watch Alcántara cruising through the middle innings and the Marlins hitters keeping their collective feet on the gas pedal (which proved to be quite important). Three series remaining to cement a pleasantly overachieving season. Go Fish and Go Shrimp!
  3. Rangers sweep and MVP is Duran (because I like his scoreboard presentation).
  4. I was truly enjoying the game when the rain came, switched over to the Braves-Nationals, then fell asleep. I had to watch the condensed game. The final score surprised me because Eury was so thoroughly dominating the Rockies.
  5. I suppose it's an easy or lazy response to long-term competitiveness that low- and mid-revenue teams must concentrate on "drafting and development." Well, sure, but these things aren't AI. They require competent people, the identification and hiring of whom has a whole range of metrics. My beloved Expos were indeed a talent factory (many if whom ended up elsewhere due to the same financial pressures low- revenue teams still face). The people that made it happen don't grow on trees, nor are they easy to lure over. Success, if it comes, means the big teams want the guys, and they are always watching with deep pockets to make it happen. Accordingly, many big FO names made their bones in Montréal, getting their chances, and moving on. This reality will not be mitigated. Until/if MLB has the unlikely cap/floor or similar revamp, low- revenue teams are locked in this narrow reality to compete. I think Bendix and his team, starting with little, have earned a thumbs up.
  6. I think our "Flint Mega Bowl" is edging out the Braves for third place with less than half the payroll. Will the Marlins lead the league in lowest cost per win?
  7. Adds to my interest in the upcoming Arizona Fall League. Thanks for the composition.
  8. There's an interesting dynamic in baseball epitomized by the despondency of Mets fans right now. They've underachieved, given their payroll, especially. Still, they're in the playoffs (most likely) where the regular season doesn't rule. On the other hand, fans of the Marlins see solid progress (perhaps a 20% win increase), emerging positional depth, an improved farm system, and (fingers crossed) a third-place overachieving finish the hated Braves. As only one team will ultimately win, many fans will view otherwise nice seasons as failures, certainly nany big-spending teams. My picks for the off-season pity parties: Phillies, Yankees, Mets, and Dodgers. Truly delightful, if my book!
  9. I This article is somewhat serendipitous for me, referring to the only 20-game winner in Marlins history. A few days ago, looking through a huge box of baseball cards hauled out of storage, I ran across one for the only such pitcher in Expos history - Ross Grimsley (he of the epochal 1970s perm).
  10. Watched this game and was rewarded with another dose of optimism for the Marlins future starting staff.
  11. I concur that retaining Cabrera was the right move. Even with his proclivity for injury, he's still cheap. If we assume the trade deadline offers were light, Bendix had an easy call, to my mind.
  12. Boring and uninspiring series. I skipped Wednesday's in favor of a Louisville Bats game. Glad I did.
  13. Six games with the Nationals bode well for a nice September success foundation - led by the amazing Marsee. Let's go all out to cement an overachieving season and some fine individual accomplishments.
  14. Marlins win the series two games to one. Connor Norby returns with a vengeance to claim MVP. Looking forward to the post-game show changeup. Happy Labor Day.
  15. I liked the old days when 10 guys would come up. There weren't enough seats in the dugout - it looked like Spring Training. Of course, pitchers hit back then, so there were more moves, and there's the larger payroll commitment nowadays.
  16. Excellent news. Improvements and drawing cards in the LDP area may be late, but important. To my mind, there's no reason the associated development area can't improve both attendance and the fan experience.
  17. Very satisfactory outing by Mazur, especially as the Mets are riding high after their sweep of the Phillies. Big lift for the Marlins in the series.
  18. Enjoyed the game interview. It's easy to be excited about Marlins starting pitching.
  19. Alcántara should reclaim leadership of the very promising 2026 rotation.
  20. I love the Marlins pitchers finally growing a pair. I'd start off every game with the Braves by plunking Acuña in the ribs. Not only does he richly deserve it, but it makes the point that the doormat is not out anymore.
  21. The early April Reds series after Easter is calling my name
