  1. I want to say Owen Caissie is lookiing like the real deal, but it's literally just 2 games. I gotta cool my jets, lol.
  2. Plug any guy from the AAA roster, and they'll do exactly what Austin Slater brings to the table. It's an unnecessary signing, and a waste of money.
  3. I don't get it either. Surely, some of the guys they have in AAA couldn't be that much worse than wasting $1 million on literal filler. At that point why not just pocket that money and play someone from AAA for league minimum? It's such an inefficient use of resources and as a fan of a cash-strapped team it's frustrating to witness.
  4. >No answers at 1B >Doesn't do anything to rectify the 1B problem. >Has a huge surplus of outfielders in their system. >2 surprise injuries to the outfield. >Has the depth and talented young guys in AAA to replace those injured players. >Signs a washed up mid-30's player to replace those injured players. >The talented outfielders in the AAA they could've brought up instead couldn't have been that much worse than said washed up mid-30's player. >STILL HAS A HUGE HOLE AT 1B BY THE WAY Miami Marlins, everyone.
  5. gee its almost like having a serious problem and doing nothing to address it still leads to a serious problem
  6. Imagine a world where the Phillies landed a star with the #1 overall pick in the 2016 draft. That would've changed the entire dynamic of their contention window. That said, the 2016 class largely sucked, so I guess I can't say I blame them for their failure there, as 90% of the other teams that year whiffed on their first round picks. (Miami for example is one of the better outcomes, and I still dont see Braxton Garrett as anything better than mid)
  7. 5 BBs in 2 IP is very concerning for Aidan May. I'm worried he might end up being a bullpen guy if he keeps that up.
  8. I'm not surprised Matt Pushard is still on the Cardinals. The Cardinals have embraced going full rebuild. In all fairness, the Cardinals should've gone into a rebuild 3 years ago back when Pujols and Yadier Molina retired. But now with stagnant results year after year, they've been dragged into the rebuild kicking and screaming. So it doesn't surprise me they still have Matt Pushard. They need all the young talent they can get, and if it means stuffing Pushard onto the MLB roster for the entire year, so be it, record be damned. The Phillies are still in their window, technically speaking, so they have way more urgency than the Cardinals. They can't afford keeping a Zach McCambley on their MLB roster when they've got big dreams to chase. That said, time is running out for the Phillies. They re-signed Kyle Schwarber, but they lost a lot of talent to free agency, and Zack Wheeler is set to retire after 2027. I have a feeling had the Phillies drafted better, their window could've been far wider. Wasting a #1 overall pick on Mickey Moniak, by far and away, stung the Phillies the most during this contention window. But as a Marlins fan, I'm not going to say no to a failed dynasty from a division rival.
  9. I especially want to see Jakob Marsee take the next step. If he can do so, I can see great things for our core group of players. The biggest problem the last rebuild had was the lack of up-the-middle talent. -All of the CFs never developed. Everyone remembers the flop of Lewis Brinson, but does anyone remember Monte Harrison and Magneuris Sierra? -Jorge Alfaro was the fastest Marlin to fizzle out in recorded history, and they didn't have any contingency plan for that. -We had literally no SS. And no, Miguel Rojas doesn't count. He's a backup infielder in his 30s being plugged into a starting role because the team didn't have any other viable options. Jazz was literally the only talented player up the middle, and he was our 2nd Baseman, despite the team stubbornly starting him at SS, before throwing him into CF because they failed to develop a CFer. Rebuilds with lack of up-the-middle talent are destined to fail. Least with other positions, should our options fail to materialize, supplementing the roster with replacements are far less expensive (be it trade assets we're trading away, or Free Agency money) than it would be supplementing replacements for up-the-middle positions. Remember how we felt forced to overpay for Jacob Stallings, and look how awful that turned out for us. (Granted, the Pirates didnt get much from our prospects, either) The hope is we don't get so desperate with this core. But now, with steady hand Otto Lopez, Luis Arraez-lite X, my hopes is that Jakob Marsee develops into a great ballplayer. And here's to hoping that Joe Mack figures things out to round out the roster.
  10. People forget how fast Xavier Edwards is. If there's anyone who could be a league leader, it's probably him. I don't see Jakob Marsee as a contender for stolen base leaderboards. He's fast, and no doubt will collect stolen bases, but I don't think he has Dee Gordon or Jose Reyes instincts on the basepaths. I see him more as a 20/30 guy, maybe 30/30 if he develops power at the plate. Esteury Ruiz does have those aformentioned instincts on the basepaths, but: 1. Will he get enough playtime? 2. Will he gets on base enough? The answer may be no on one or both.
  11. If there's anyone in Spring Training camp that's opening my eyes, it's Matthew Etzel. He's playing his bum out even though there's no snowball's chance he'll be on the Opening Day roster. I love to see the little guys give 110% effort every day during these games. Even if they don't make the roster, they'll make sure the organization remembers their name when someone inevitably goes down to injury. Not bad for someone who came as a return for the Nick Fortes trade. Never thought we'd get much out of trading Fortes in the first place, honestly. Here's to hoping he continues to prove me wrong.
  12. Honestly, at this point, it's not a matter of if Joe Mack will be in the majors in 2026, but a matter of when. They can't keep trudging Agustin Ramirez and his "defense" behind the plate for much longer. And no doubt Joe Mack won't be on the Opening Day roster, as he will likely be held in AAA until late April to manipulate service time clock. My guess is, barring injuries, or massive AAA struggles, we will see Joe Mack around late April or early May.
  13. oh my god can we ever draft any prospect that can stay healthy for once
  14. JT Realmuto was just as much of a beast as those two. It's a shame they failed to build a team around him.
  15. Today has to be a frustrating day if you're Joe Mack. He prides himself on defense, and there's 8 Wild Pitches on the day, 3 of which happened under his watch. But what today does mean is, I now have even more questions about Liam Hicks as a catcher. It's bad enough that he has a bad poptime, something that's already a death sentence for defensive catchers, but if he cant block pitches effectively, he has no business being there. Considering his paltry bat, this isn't good for his outlook. I get some of those Wild Pitches were beyond their control, but this is an extremely discouraging game for guys trying to win the Catcher spot. I would've stomached a 16 run blowout loss if it meant our guys were doing their job defensively, but so far, I have more questions about our catchers than answers.
  16. I have a feeling Snelling might overall win the 5th spot if he performs well in Spring, but would still be in AAA to start the year to delay the service time clock.
  17. I think the storyline I'm most interested in is Agustin Ramirez. He's technically a catcher, so he should be active right now. The thing I want to hear about is simple: Is he taking grounders at 1B?
  18. We're already gambling on Paddack staying healthy in the first place. He's about as injury-wrecked as the guys we traded away except with less upside and less years of control. Sure, we could use a guy to buy time for Thomas White, but here's the thing: We already had that with Ryan Weathers. Either way, this doesn't make any team sense under any context.
  19. Uhh... have you even looked at Chris Paddack's statsheet? 2025 was the only time he's pitched more than 17 starts in the past 4 seasons. You're calling Cabrera and Weathers injury prone? We traded a younger injury-prone lefty with more years of control for an older injury-prone righty for 1 year and with a worse floor/ceiling. I don't see how this improves our team.
  20. Honestly, the Marlins were forced to do this. They don't trade Ryan Weathers, they don't make this move. Unless they really liked the package they received from Weathers (I'm not buying it if what I heard about their tendencies are true), I don't understand why they didn't just keep Weathers in the first place. He would have moved the needle much more than Chris Paddack, at his very 2019 best, would have. We just traded a younger, oft-injured, much-coveted lefty pitcher for an older, oft-injured, much-less-coveted righty pitcher with a worse floor and worse ceiling, with this move.
  21. I think Josh Johnson not being in the HOF would be a crime. His peak years are years no current Marlin is able to even come close to. I still remember his 2011 season when every single outing of his (except for his injury-shortened last one) was a no-hitter waiting to happen. Nobody on the Marlins current roster is even close to sniffing that stratosphere. Dontrelle Willis was a model of going out there every 5 days and having an all-you-can-eat buffet of innings, the same type of mold Cy Young award winner Sandy Alcantara is made out of. He should be inducted, too.
  22. There's also some little things that need to be noted. -Agustin Ramirez not catching (be it DH or 1B), by itself, would swing the win total by at least 3 games. Especially if Joe Mack successfully makes the transition to the majors. -A lot of the players you doubted could have just as much of a chance to build on their breakout year (Marsee) or maintain it (Stowers) as they have a chance to regress. -Robby Snelling could shove enough to become an everyday starting pitcher, though the Marlins might hold off until late April to delay service time clock. -Thomas White, but likely the Marlins will wait even longer for him than they will Snelling. If he's as electric as he's advertised to be, he could be an X-Factor.
  23. Castellanos would make for a nice feel-good story as a Hialeah kid, but that's all he brings to the table. He's a mess defensively, and while moving him to 1B would make sense for this stage of his career, I don't see how he's an upgrade over simply moving Agustin Ramirez there. Ramirez is 24 years old making the league minimum, and Castellanos is about to be 34 and is making $20 million for 2026 on the last year of his contract. I don't think I feel the need to clarify myself further.
  24. Nah, I'm still not sold on Starlyn Caba being a top-10 prospect. He could have Barry Bonds level discipline during winter ball, and it still won't change my opinion. He's a hideously overrated prospect, and if you believe that highly in him, you'll just be left disappointed when he makes next to no impact at the MLB level. He has a slick glove and can cover a lot of ground at short, so, at best, he's a backup middle-infielder at the major league level. He doesn't have the tools in the batter's box to be a regular. Sure, he has a good eye and can take pitches for walks, but he's doing this at low-level competition. He WON'T continue to get away with this at higher levels.
