Miami got bailed out of their own incompetance. They should thank the lucky stars other teams passed on Troy Johnston when they were all but gifted and hand-wrapped a potential offensive talent.

Losing Nasim Nunez is nothing. Nobody is going to miss a guy that slugged under .300 and wasn't getting on base enough to justify such a lack of power. I think Nunez probably has the ceiling of maybe a Billy Hamilton, but no more than that.

In last year's Rule 5, Oakland selected Ryan Noda with the second overall pick. Noda's numbers during the 2022 season in the Dodgers system were very similar to Troy Johnston's this past season (although not as good as Troy's even in a better hitter environment). Both players were first basemen originally drafted in the 17th round and Noda was actually a few months older than Johnston on draft day. Noda put up a 121 OPS+ for his rookie season. For comparative purposes, Josh Bell had an OPS+ of 104 last season.

I am extemely happy that Johnston is still in the Miami system and hope that he can match the continuing success that Noda has enjoyed.

Completely agree on Johnston. It was a mistake and they got away with it. Hopefully they take advantage of it and bring him up when the right situation presents itself during the season.

It takes pretty unique circumstances for a hitter to make sense as a Rule 5 pick. I thought Troy was an exception like Noda. Don't understand how every team could be so skeptical of him.

THANK GOD HE IS STILL A MARLINS AND HOPPING TO GET A CHANCE TO STAY AS FIRST BASEMAN FOR LONG TIME
