I largely agree with this.

One topic I want to dive into soon is what happened to Fortes' bat. Exciting debut in 2021 and showed a lot of promise in early 2022 as well, but now his struggles greatly outweigh his initial success. Given the bad alternatives on the market, it wouldn't be the worst thing to bet on Fortes bouncing back and bringing in a veteran on a minor league deal to battle with Banfield and McIntosh for the backup job. So I have shortstop as the higher priority for this particular offseason.

I think a solid number two SP (Erod, Sonny Gray, Kenta Madea) While we have pitchers we need a decent arm for quality innings this year and next. Sandy may or may not be the same and definitely less innings.

Personally, with how deep the SP market is and how thin hitting market is, sign 2 pitchers and then trade like Braxton, Luzardo or Cabrera in another Arraez like trade. Watch Houstons at bats they rarely strike out.

I also trade Scott it's selling high in his last year of control and I don't see us only a closer away from WS. Maybe make this a trade with a SP and target a young SS

Like I said, when it comes to address specific positions, a more through analysis will be done.

But for now, one thing the fans can expect is no big FA signings. Will be a great surprise, but the FO will keep focusing on spending smart rather than big. Any of the names you mentioned above would be a shocker. Won’t complain, but I don’t think it’ll happen.

About the trades: you gonna trade away an MLB-proven, controllable starter and a closer to get a young SS?

Can you give a trade target, for example? I’ll give you that SS can be better addressed via trade than FA, but I just don’t see any team as a potential trade partner. Maybe the Reds?

New GM is crucial. The case against Ng is simple. Free agents Garcia, Cueto and Segura were all dramatically over-weight when they reported to camp after signing. They didn't take their jobs with the Marlins seriously and that's on the GM.

The draft has been awful the last two years. Had they just gone with the consensus of writers, the Marlins would have a fantastic (Rutschman like) catching prospect in Teel instead of a "who knows?" high school pitcher in Noble Meyer. The team would also have a promising shortstop candidate in Brooks Lee (instead of Berry). The draft is crucial and Ng has slipped up badly.

I'm quite surprised Rule 5 isn't listed in the priorities when it comes to deciding which players to keep and which players to let go of.

Personally, I'd do whatever it takes to keep Troy Johnston on the 40 man roster. Even if it means exposing Nasim Nunez to the Rule 5 draft. Johnston's the only prospect we have that can hit above sea level, and Nasim Nunez has shown absolutely no development. Not what you want to see when your depth options for SS are already dire.

The Rule 5 draft falls into the “Roster Depth” category, where I actually mention Johnston. It didn’t come as it’s own category because there are several ways to address depth: Free Agents, trades, Rule 5, non-roster invitees, etc.

The Rule 5 draft is certainly on of my favourite topics this winter and it deserves its own post.

The topics on this list will have dedicated FanPosts, and for sure there will be one covering the draft after following the order here.
