Let's see. After the ASG, this is how the Marlins have lost games:

7/14 2-5 vs BAL: Bad SP outing (Sandy)

7/15 5-6 vs BAL: Bullpen BS (Brazoban)

7/16 4-5 vs BAL: Bullpen (Okert) and no offense for 8 innings (2-for-10 w/RISP)

7/17 4-6 vs STL: Bullpen (Floro)

7/18 2-5 vs STL: Bullpen (Puk) and 1-for-14 w/ RISP

7/19 4-6 vs STL: SP (Sandy) and 2-for-11 w/RISP

7/21 1-6 vs COL: SP (Garrett)

7/22 3-4 vs COL: Bullpen (Chargois and Scott)

7/23 3-2 vs COL: Bullpen BS (Puk), but the team won.

So no. it is not because they sent down Eury, as a matter of fact, so far Cueto has been really good in that small sample. That losing streak was mostly because of a bad bullpen (tired?) and a horrible batting w/RISP.

If you ask me, this team needs to be a buyer. ONE bullpen flame thrower at the very least PLUS a good, consistent bat who preferably plays 3B, C, CF, or SS (Myers and Wendle can play 3B). I think Sandy has had a terrible season, but I still believe he can deliver down the stretch. Give Cueto another two or three outings and, if he does not perform, call back Eury.

Since there are no options for FanPosts, I'll comment on closer possibilities, just filtering relievers by the number of saves AND are NOT contenders. Here are realistic some options:

1. Jason Foley (DET): https://www.mlb.com/player/jason-foley-671345

2. Adbert Alzolay (CHC): https://www.mlb.com/player/adbert-alzolay-640470

3. Mark Leiter Jr. (CHC): https://www.mlb.com/player/mark-leiter-jr-643410

4. Alex Lange (DET): https://www.mlb.com/player/alex-lange-656638 (I don't like his BB%)

5. Scott Barlow (KC): https://www.mlb.com/player/scott-barlow-605130 (Rough last couple of Outings)

6. Pete Fairbanks (TB): https://www.mlb.com/player/pete-fairbanks-664126 (TB also has Adam as a closer)

Other obvious candidates are Bednar, Lawrence, and Hader, but I think the Marlins will be outbid for any of them.

Maybe also Hunter Harvey? He is injured, but it is perfect to buy low...

Eury will make an impact, but you cannot put any expectations on Cueto and more importantly, have to be prepared for the possibility of additional SP injuries. No matter what happens over the next week, I think there's a trade coming for a veteran SP.

Eury has reportedly been throwing bullpens in the minors. We could have left him with the Marlins and had him pitch an inning in relief every third day. If he had instead pitched one of the aforementioned innings in the losing streak, we might have two or three wins instead of losses.

That was one idea many of us had before sending him down, but I guess they know better than us.

As discussed in the podcast with Craig Mish, the fact that player like Cueto, García and Segura are going to play just because of the sake of salary, makes me wonder what are the ultimate goals for the FO. For how long are you going to keep them trying? How many more blocked players in the minors are this team going to spoil just because “we are a low budget team”? Isn’t more important winning and developing talent?
