Ely, I think a new post about the Marlins performance with a runner on and 2 outs is all but inevitable at this point. It needs to be known that the Marlins pitching cannot perform when there's at least a runner on base with 2 outs. This problem has mostly been shoved aside the past few seasons, and now I feel there needs to be more attention paid to it, especially now that this team is still in the wildcard race. I don't believe many people are aware of this unless they scroll down and see my comments on it (which I make, every time they give up key 2 out runs), and I really doubt that is the case.

I'll cite two recent examples of a lingering problem that this team has had since 2021.

1. In the 6-5 loss against the Orioles, the Marlins gave up 6 runs. 3 of them came with 2 outs.

2. In this game, the Marlins gave up 6 runs. 5 of them came with 2 outs. We lost 6-4. Those runs were a major difference in our loss.

If the Marlins have any playoff hopes, they need to perform with 2 outs. They need to close innings out. They need to shut the door on opposing team rallies.

This cannot continue. This level of choking is unacceptable at any level, let alone the playoffs.

All that is to say, if the Marlins are to make any noise in the playoffs, they need to do a better job at pitching with 2 outs. They cannot call themselves a playoff team and continue giving up 2 out runs the way they have all season long.

I can't say it has really been top of mind for me this season. The Marlins' overall numbers in 2-out situations are right in line with the rest of the league (no better, no worse).

RECENTLY, yes. It cost them this game in particular and both of the Puk blown saves before the break.
