  1. The common denominator with the recent trades is that the Marlins are chasing young, power hitters. They must think they can't compete without that type of batting lineup. I like Stowers. But can't get the first year he had with us out of my mind with all the strike outs. So not wise at this point to extend him. Low revenue teams can't miss with contracts.
  2. Lets remember, Marlins could have traded Sandy. But he is more of a sure thing then Cabrera. So Marlins are giving themselves a chance this season.
  3. Marlins did really, really well. Three prospects with major potential all. The headliner is MLB ready, then a 22 and a 18 year old. So I am sure the thought process included smoothing out the minor league system. Good trade for Cubs too. For Marlins fans, Eddy is too uncertain to keep around.
  4. I hate trading pitching, but in this situation its called for. They have at least two outstanding pitching prospects that between them need at least half a season of playing time this season. Cabrera has serious question marks as to just how much value he will provide going forward. Its a bit of a forced trade because in return they may be getting a serious hitter/not bad defender who has some flexibility where he can play. The timing of getting this young player in relation to where they are at is perfect. And we can never confuse the Marlins with a high revenue team that chews up highly rated prospects simply because they believe they have to make the playoffs every year. Giving prospects a long runway to succeed will always be part of the deal.
  5. Perhaps the Cubs #7 prospect, the right handed first baseman will be part of the deal.
  6. I think fans should remember that the Marlin Ownership also has about 16 or so minority shareholders. So the team has to keep them happy with some sort of investment return. Plus the team has a very large debt it has to carry and service. And the Marlins aren't the only small market team with this situation. Just today it was announced that the Twins sold part of their team to help erase its debt.
  7. Would be nice to keep both starting Pitchers, Cabrera and Sandy. But don't think this front office is on board with competing next year. Would think, it might be worth trading one pitcher if team could get a serious bat. Then would make it possible to compete next year. Might be why they seem to want Spencer Jones from Yankees.
  8. A True. A young pitcher package from the Yankees. Maybe Schlittler, Cunningham, and a salvage project like Oswald Peraza. Not sure if Schlittler is in their current plans. Would like more though.
  9. If Sandy goes to Yankees, then their number 5 prospect, pitcher Bryce Cunningham looks to be an interesting target as part of a trade.
