Why the Marlins should explore a Thomas White extension
FishFan93 replied to Alex Carver's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
The problem is, by that point, if he succeeds at an all-star pace, will his asking price still be obtainable? -

I disagree with your disagreement. This was a lineup issue game. Clayton took out Norby, Gus, Dane, and I knew it was going to go this way before gametime. You can't just pull out your hot guys and expect Sandy to keep the game in reach. Yes everyone is contributing but you need those hot hands to keep the engine running

My wife is a Kia Tigers fan and asked me about Adam Oller. I was very confused, and then she said, "Oh, he played for the Marlins. " I was still very confused. See, he only played six games. I guess I'll be cheering him on via the Tigers! V13!

I know this is probably massive doomposting, especially as the Marlins have at least another two decades at LoanDepot, but we saw how the MLB tried to make Oakland look like a town with no baseball fans. There are a ton, it was just none wanted to watch a team that didn't respect the fans, and cared to make the experience good. The Bananas just played at Loandepot to a sold out stadium. The Caribe was sold out, the WBC was sold out. Heck, you know olympic baseball will be too if it was played at loandepot. We have an international community of baseball fans all over the south florida region, and a team that plays bananaball from Savannah just got people to drive down from west palm and broward to fill out a stadium. I really am concerned the MLB will eventually play the whole "well miami is not conducive for baseball" POV, when it really is far from it, hurting any potential chance for a future expansion back to Miami or South Florida if the Marlins were to unfortunately move. It just hurts seeing a full stadium for the Bananas, and we can't even do that opening day.

In this case, it sorta is. If we had a farm system, I would completely agree with you. But we have nothing. If we smartly trade Jazz for multiple high-value prospects, then it would work out great....except FO is the same one who traded Arraez for literally nothing. Bendix and ownership are probably playing the game of "Marlins are expected to have 0 fans for the next 2-3 years; at least building the farm during another period of pain won't cause any immediate disastrous effects to the fanbase (as we basically have no fanbase already!)". Absolutely, this will probably hurt way long-term by doing this, as any expectation for yet another rebuild to fix the team will ruin any goodwill if there was any left in the first place (there is no goodwill left, and the Savannah Bananas will be the first and only baseball team this year to sellout LoanDepot Park, god that hurts to say and Bruce absolutely should be ashamed when that happens).

It is truly maddening that it is the same show for our fans each time. Marlins fans are probably the most diehard in the MLB just due to the amount of misfortune we endure each season. We get three years and new prospects, then what happens? We sell them off cause we aren't going to pay them. I get Bendix is in his first year. I can't pass judgment on him, but I can pass judgment on Sherman. He is an ineffective owner who does not have the ability to compete in a league with no caps. What happens next when Bendix leaves or gets fired in X years (probably 4 years)? Are we back to 24, 2018/19, 04, 98 again? What is the incentive for fans to watch? It is crazy how one county over in a league that should have no pull in Florida, an ice hockey team that has been there as long as the Marlins, finally has a fanbase and contender status thanks to good ownership. Heck, there is an MLS team that has more pull than the Marlins right now due to ownership (MLB made a major mistake not letting them buy the team) making the moves to bring superstars in for fans to come. It is maddening that South Florida, an area with a long history of baseball, has ownership that doesn't want to invest in the sport. I am glad the Marlins are forced to stay in Miami until 2040, but are we seriously just waiting for the clock to hit the lease expiration date so ownership can pawn off the team to another city? I'll support them no matter what (until the inevitable move, of course), but MLB isn't fun to us like other fans. Fans are supposed to have fun watching their team and support them through good times and bad times. Yes, we had two World Series; at least we are doing better than the Rockies! Why is it that when folks say that they are Marlins fans, the first reaction from rival teams isn't "Oh man, we hate your team" or "You got X, and he's pretty good," but "I'm so sorry you are a Marlins fan" in actual empathy and not sarcasm! How long until the general fanbase goes, "You know, I'd rather watch X team because at least they win/contend/do something/have some history." I feel we have already hit that point, and the remaining folks that go to the game are just us who remember what happened those magical two years.- 13 replies

I'd say debatable on A's vs Marlins saddness. At least they had several years to grieve and know their ownership is literally evil. We get false hope, momentum that maybe this might be the first time we don't firesale after a postseason appearance and we might be moving forward for once, before we yet again get hit with reality. I don't know about you, but I rather be the A's fan right now knowing at least the nightmare is over.- 1 reply

Puk, Schumaker speak on Marlins' losing streak
FishFan93 replied to Daniel Rodriguez's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
I think it is more on how Marlins fans have experienced Baseball for their whole history. We will have 1 good year and then the next year we immediately firesale or blow up the roster due to "financial constraints". We have just seen this dance before is all. -

Just waiting for mid April to come around so we can get some pitchers back...what is going on here. -
I know the pitching isn't super stellar (love Max though when he is out there) but I'm very concerned now if we are going to make moves for anything offensively...how many more times are we going to have stalls this season before something changes? Feel bad for the bullpen right now but I'm really hoping this pitcher cycling we are doing right now comes out fruitful and doesn't generate a bad player reaction about Miami. Team was slowly gaining fans back after last season, would hate to see all the goodwill shattered...again.

Marlins drop to 0-3 for the first time since 2015
FishFan93 replied to Kevin Barral's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
Man, this hurts after what we did last season. After all the shifts this offseason and management changes I'm hoping this is just another bump in the road but my fear is we are just cutting costs again. I have hope for some of the draftees we got in the system...just hope we don't trade em for peanuts.- 4 replies
