Good to see his fastball velo increased. Anything below 90 is unacceptable, but even the low 90s are easier to hit off of than the mid 90s. I hope his success continues this spring.

I need Connor Norby to hit a homer so that I can hit my parlay and win that Marlins glass cup

I think it's a good idea. Spring Training is a good trial run to see if it works. It should work with no problem.
-
It’s surprising Sandy isn’t getting the start on Saturday instead but regardless, he’s back. I’ll be at the Monday game against the Astros so I’m assuming the starter will be Weathers?
Congratulations to Craig Mish. It’s nice to see a new but familiar face join the rotation of analysts on FDSN.

Wow, can’t believe Yuli is still playing. Good for him.
As bad as Jeffrey Loria was, he’s better than the circus we got going on now with Bruce Sherman.
-
Can someone tell Sherman that fantasy and reality are two different things? His decisions become more questionable each season. I wish Jorge Más had been able to buy this team instead.
You’re on point with Alcantara. Why wait till the end of his contract to trade him and risk his trade value being diminished? It’s pathetic that we’ve only spent $8.5 million in free agents in the past two seasons when an average decent player makes more than that in a season.

“Right now” means Sandy’s on our ball club today, but we’re not promising that he’s going to be here tomorrow.
They know we can read the BS they’re spilling out to the public, but what else can they say?
For now, all they can do is promote “Opening Dade” and hope fans show up that game to be ensured that Sandy is back in a Marlins uniform.

While I like the teal color, it's kind of "boring." Is it supposed to be boring? I guess I need to look at other team jerseys. 🫤
They do nothing for me either. It’s not the same as the original Florida Marlins jerseys.
-
I think it’s safe to say both will make the club. Mervis is a lock and Conine should impress everyone enough this spring to make it on the roster.
-
Kyle Hendricks would've been my go-to guy as well. Sucks he can't hit the 90s anymore, which is a red flag. Martin Perez is a good safe option

That's cool!

Seems like a clear voice with a practical plan. Hope he can arrange to have Aram (of Just Baseball) on the air with him from time to time.
I've always been amazed by the lack of minor league coverage on Marlins TV and radio. The games should be monitored frequently and consistently.
I agree. Some of us would love to see more coverage on the minor league teams. They only get talked about on TV or radio if a certain prospect is on the team's radar to get called up.

I could see Griffin Conine emerge as the clubhouse leader. Being the son of "Mr. Marlin," I can see him instill some of the attributes of his dad.
I hope this team is more like the 2006 Marlins than the 1998 ones where some of the younger guys have breakout seasons and they generate more wins than expected.

Within minutes of the public announcement, the team had a social media post ready to promote Opening Day tickets. That's what it is all about.
Spring training performance will change the rotation hierarchy, but there's obviously the risk of injury between now and then. If it were a pure baseball decision, they would simply wait until he completes his final spring game to announce.
Yup, it's pretty much all about selling tickets. This will be my first Opening Day in attendance. It's obviously going to be their highest attended game of the season, so they have to promote it as much as possible.
-
Ditto to last year, when they signed Tim Anderson right as the offseason was coming to an end.
Not the sexiest signing but it's a signing that I'll take. We definitely need an innings-eater than can give our bullpen some rest.
At least the Marlins can now flex on the Cardinals and Brewers for having spent more money than they have.

One more decent season from Sandy Alcantara and he surpasses Josh Johnson as the greatest Marlin pitcher in franchise history in my books.
I'm intrigued to see a future of Joe Mack behind the plate, Agustin Ramirez at DH, and Deyvision De Los Santos at first.
More than anything, I want to see this team score more runs this season. I'm tired of seeing us dead last (or close to it) in that category. There will have to be a huge emphasis on bunts, sac hits, and stolen bases to make this work.
-
Barring an injury to one of starting position players, he'll start the season in the minors. I do see the window of an opportunity to come for him within the first couple months of the season though.
-
Dane Myers is my sleeper candidate for the Marlins who's due for a breakout year. I'm not saying he's going to put All-Star type of numbers all of a sudden, but I definitely feel like he'll put numbers that'll be greater than people expected. I would love to see him get more reps this season.
There's really no objection to your position player projections since no one else outside of those really stand to even have a shot of getting a promotion.
The only surprise to me was how Andrew Nardi had a recent setback. I was expecting him to be ready. I can see all those pitchers making the Opening Day roster as well.
Normally you'd love to see some competition for some positions that are up got grabs but I just don't see any names that can really put one of the starters on alert. What you get is what you see.

"A team spokesperson claims that over 18,000 people attended, but a source within the organization tells Fish On First only 7,400 tickets were scanned."
Sheesh, that's a huge difference. Someone is right and the other isn't. Having been there myself for an hour, 7,400 people sounds about right. I got to take a picture with Eury/Mervis, and Sandy/Mazur. The line was only 30 minutes long.
LOL, in 20 years everything but the Marlins payroll has risen in price

I hope the process is smooth in this final stretch of rehabbing and he doesn't face any setbacks. We need him come July!

I love this idea. It’s actually better than a jersey retirement and is a proper way of getting to honor the legacy of more players. Marlins W.

It's definitely a smart move to monitor the number of innings he pitches. No more than 7 innings or 90 pitches, whichever comes first. Better that than to rush him into throwing complete games and he reaggravates an injury all of a sudden.

Great to see prospects showcasing their talent in this remarkable comeback. That's a great sign of our farm system getting better. #CardiacFish
