  1. In 2022, Lopez was the Blue Jays number four prospect. Now he is the Jumbo Shrimp SS. Tomorrow he should be the Marlins starting SS, or at least Brujan's replacement. (Anderson's current .275 avg creates the illusion that he is doing fine. He's not.)
  2. Justified or not, I have total confidence in Cabrera's future. Another pitcher I'm just starting to like is Monteverde. At the very least he looks ready to take Okert's former spot in the pen. His attacking style seems fitted for relief.
  3. His fifth shot came against a big lefty named Jacob Lopez, the top starter for Durham.
  4. I think you put Gray at SS or 3rd base, bat him ninth, and absorb his 180 whiffs and 30 homers. Catchers around MLB had over 30 hits on Sunday ... Marlin catchers have no hits on the season!
  5. And Gray has accomplished his feat off the very same pitchers that have absolutely silenced Johnston and Myer.
  6. Coming soon to a diamond near us! 5 homers in 5 days!
  7. AAA start was a tough one. Seemed like every offspeed pitch was above the belt. His endurance seems less in doubt than his command.
  8. Got to hand it to Skip, no matter how unproductive his lineup has proven to be, he keeps penciling in the same names in the same spots. You'd think he might go with Gordon, Jazz and Arraez, speed at the top, but nope.
  9. On Bleday. I was never a fan, not after the Marlins drafted him over my guy, CJ Abrams. It takes a few years to get a reading on prospects, but Abrams looks like a future All Star to me.
  10. I predict that Sixto will pitch three scoreless innings this afternoon.
  11. Burdick is still striking out half the time. However, that Orioles AAA team has about a half dozen players who are better than anyone on the Marlins major league team!
  12. When it rains, it pours. JJ Bleday has an OPS of around .950 for Oakland. That would lead the Marlins by a country mile. While Jazz talks a great game, Gallen pitches one every time he steps on the mound. Tim Anderson already has an RBI this season! Who knew? Marlin catchers already have a hit this season! Who knew? The Marlins may win a game this season! Who knows?
  13. Bendix is flopping out of the gate for sure. He had the benefit of association with Tampa but has shown no insight whatever in Miami.
  14. Last season Tim Anderson was the worst offensive and defensive regular in baseball (.245, .286 and OPS+ of 60.) Somehow he is well behind that pace this season. (.200, .238, and OPS+ of .29.) He was Bendix' only free agent signing.
  15. Some big hits by Conine and barely good enough pitching to win the opener. Edwards will be out another week. Former Shrimp Burdick and Mangum wih homers for Norfolk and Durham.
  16. Okay, so what did we see last night? Puk was obviously overwhelmed by his first major league start, No positives in his outing. Double plays were a huge problem last season. Looks like the problem is here to stay. Jazz was awful at the plate. In consecutive at bats he had the chance to play hero with two outs and the bases pretty much juiced. The whiff in him reared its ugly head. Last I read, he was supposed to be focused on hitting to the opposite field, especially versus lefties. He's not. On opening night, the manager pinch hit for Jesus Sanchez with Garcia because a southpaw had entered the game. Well, last night Jesus stayed on the bench when a righty entered the game. What's it gonna be, Skip? Are you going to mess with the head of your most promising hitter? Things get much worse this afternoon. Jared Jones, who is on the mound for the Pirates, is the real deal.
  17. Everybody has their own pet peeves. Mine was the coaching decision to bat Avisail Garcia for Jesus Sanchez off the lefty late in the game. Sanchez is a prospective star on this team IMO and has been hitting lefties just fine as of late. Garcia whiffed on three pitches that were nowhere near being strikes.
  18. 70-92, The positives: Potentially good bullpen and average rotation. The negatives: Largely a plodding, defensively challenged lineup that will strike out like no other and refuse walks. Horrible at SS. Overall drop in the reserve corps from Berti and Hampson. My hopes: Edwards, Dane and Troy in the everyday lineup. Sixto to become rotation guy.
  19. The new president has taken the bull by the horns ... or maybe stepped in cow paddies. The problem: How to replace Soler's 32 homers? His answer: Avisial Garcia. My answer: Sign Adam Duvall for peanuts. The problem: How do you get some productivity from the catcher position? His answer: Acquire Bethancourt, who was yard-saled for 100 grand. My answer: Will Banfield replaces Fortes now instead of waiting another month., I would also have Kyle Teel in the pipeline, my 2023 draft pick instead of Noble Meyer. The problem: How do you improve the SS position, where the Marlins were nearly the worst in all of baseball. His answer: Sign Tim Anderson, who was actually the very worst performing SS. My answer: Put Jazz at SS where he belongs and mitigate his throwing by having a first basement who can catch the ball on the bounce (which most major leaguers do routinely.)
  20. What an odd trade. Marlins obviously get even worse for this season.
  21. The trade opened up a spot for Dane Meyers. Well done.
  22. "You can't take anything from the results of these kinds of games...." Why not? It's the final tune-up for the season! Seems to me that a pitcher wants to put his very best foot forward. I'm plenty worried about Rogers.
  23. And as for Jazz, 100% of his attention should be on cutting down on his strikeouts.
