Marlins 2026 draft class update: Jacob Lombard, others on cusp of Low-A league title

The Miami Marlins welcomed 21 new players to their organization via the 2026 MLB Draft. Historically, they have been quick to test draftees in official Minor League Baseball games shortly after signing them, but the process has been different this time. Only four members of the 2026 class suited up for Marlins MiLB affiliates during their first summer as pros, with the rest training behind closed doors in anticipation for 2027.

Fortunately, those who've gotten immediate exposure to the minor leagues are already part of meaningful games. Entering Tuesday, the Low-A Jupiter Hammerheads are one win away from clinching the Florida State League championship.

Here’s an update for every Marlins draft pick from their 2026 draft class:

SS Jacob Lombard (Round 1): In 22 regular season games with Jupiter, Lombard had a .220/.343/.390 slash line. He recorded 18 hits, two doubles, four home runs, 17 RBIs, 13 walks, 15 runs scored, 11 stolen bases, and a .733 OPS. The shortstop also homered in both games that the Hammerheads played against the Daytona Tortugas in their first-round playoff series.

LHP Ethan Kleinschmit (Round 2): No MiLB games yet

RHP Ryan Peterson (Competitive Balance Round B): No MiLB games yet

SS Cam Kozeal (Round 3): Limited to 10 games due to an injured list stint, Kozeal had a .214/.313/.405 slash line. He recorded nine hits, two doubles, two home runs, three RBIs, six walks, six runs scored, and a .718 OPS. Defensively, he split time between second base and third base.

OF Wessley Roberson (Round 4): Roberson joined Jupiter's outfield on August 30. He posted a .278/.480/.389 slash line in six games with five hits, two doubles, seven walks, four stolen bases, and a .869 OPS. He has gone 1-for-9 with a walk in the postseason.

LHP Trey Beard (Round 5): No MiLB games yet

RHP Cole Selvig (Round 6): No MiLB games yet

SS Eric Guevara (Round 7): Fitting in at third base, Guevara had a .240/.377/.360 slash line in 16 regular season games. He recorded 12 hits, two home runs, seven RBIs, 11 walks, 11 runs scored, six stolen bases, and a .737 OPS. He owns an incredible 1.483 OPS in playoff competition.
