Marlins 2026 draft class update: Lombard, Kozeal, Guevara take over Low-A Jupiter infield

The Miami Marlins welcomed 21 new players to their organization via the 2026 MLB Draft. Historically, they have been quick to test draftees in official Minor League Baseball games shortly after signing them, but the process has been different this summer. As of Monday, only three members of the 2026 class are active with Marlins MiLB affiliates, and Fish On First has learned that none of the pitchers are expected to take the mound against minor league competition until 2027.

First-round pick Jacob Lombard made his professional debut earlier this month and has already had some big hits and other highlight plays in the minors. Here’s an update on him and every other Marlins draft pick.

SS Jacob Lombard (Round 1): Lombard has posted a .194/.362/.361 slash line in ten games for the Low-A Jupiter Hammerheads. The first-rounder has recorded seven hits, two home runs, seven RBIs, eight walks, eight runs scored, five stolen bases, and a .723 OPS. Fresh out of high school, the 18-year-old shortstop is younger than every pitcher that he's faced thus far, so it is not too surprising to see that strikeouts have been an issue (36.2 K%).

RHP Ryan Peterson (Competitive Balance Round B): No MiLB games yet

SS Cam Kozeal (Round 3): The University of Arkansas product has a .214/.313/.405 slash line in ten games for Low-A Jupiter. Kozeal has recorded nine hits, two doubles, two home runs, three RBIs, six walks, six runs scored, and a .718 OPS. Although announced as a shortstop on draft day, he isn't getting any playing time at the position yet as the Hammerheads are prioritizing Lombard and Luis Arana. Instead, Kozeal is splitting time between second base and third base.

SS Eric Guevara (Round 7): Beginning his pro career last week, Guevara has a .300/.417/.300 slash line in four games for Low-A Jupiter. Guevara has recorded four hits, one RBI, two walks, two runs scored, one stolen base, and a .717 OPS. He's been used once at shortstop with his other appearances coming at third base.
