Really? Drafting Jacob Berry over Brooks Lee is a product of knowing better? Every tout in the world, professional and amateur, had Lee as the better pick! Failing to take care of the catcher position when Kyle Teel miraculously fell to Miami in last year's draft was a product of knowing better? High school pitchers like Noble Meyer, who the Marlins selected instead, are a huge risk! Teel had the look of the next Rutschman behind and at the plate.

That sentence had a huge part of sarcasm.

 

They are supposed to know better than all of us since they have all the required information at the reach of their hands, but there is no other explanation to think why for example Sixto or Groshans have a roster spot over Johnston.

 

Draft picks over the last 5-ish years only confirm that this organization needs a profound renovation from bottom to top, and this roster decision is yet another example of the gigantic transformation Mr. Bendix has to face for the next couple of years.

Thing with Johnston was that his trajectory was continuing upward. If you look at the history of Max Muncy you will see how Johnston is headed in that very direction. I can't think of any excuse for not protecting the minor league RBI champ for a team that needs another lefty bat in particular.

The knock on Nunez is that he doesn't hit for extra bases. So what? He has gotten on base at a .386 clip for his career thus far. He steals bases like crazy, turning walks and slap singles into extra base hits in the process. What pitching staff doesn't benefit from having a gold glover at SS?

I really like Nasim, he reminds me of Juan Pierre. But I think he won't be claimed and wouldn't hurt him to spend a season in AAA. I would have given him a roster spot over Sixto in a heartbeat.

We sign former Ray Tristan Gray to a AAA contract. He's a former Rice teammate of Dane Myers if I recall correctly. Both were drafted in 2017, Gray has power and knocks in runs (led the Duham team), but IS Peyton Burdick with the swing and miss.

I'm guessing a team like Oakland, Detroit or KC picks up Nunez. Johnston figures to get chosen as well.

Even more swing-and-miss than Burdick, if you can believe it. Not as many strikeouts overall, but his inability to make contact is likely a fatal flaw at the highest level.
