With the conclusion of the World Series, I have to point out that the Texas Rangers had 2 former marlins on their championship-winning squad. Andrew Heaney won his first championship, and Nathan Eovaldi has even become a two-time champion.

All I have to ask is... dear god, just how badly did the 2010s Marlins misuse their pitching talent?

It's hard for me to get worked up over that in their cases. The trades involving Heaney and Eovaldi brought back solid players in return.

Most importantly, both guys were free agents last winter when the Marlins shopped for rotation depth! They signed short-term, reasonably priced deals. More expensive than Cueto, but certainly not unobtainable even for Sherman's budget.

My point was they struggled to get the best out of Eovaldi when they had him, and Andrew Heaney was never given a fair chance before they traded both players.

I'm not going to hang the returns they got for both, but it really makes you wonder what that core could have been.
