Almost have to wonder what Skip’s relationship with Preller is if Melvin actually leaves. With Kim gone and Skip’s family in SD / SoCal, hard to believe he’s not at least thinking about it, especially given he’s been part of that org before. The new Marlins FO might want to bring in their own guys anyway, though we’d have to receive compensation for him.

Skip only has one more year on his contract with the following year a club option. As you said his family is still in Southern California. So it would not surprise me if the Padres might inquire about the availability of Skip. Stay tuned.

There's a Bob Nightengale report suggesting that the Padres will promote from within (Ryan Flaherty or Mike Shildt, who are already on their coaching staff). Should get more clarity this week. New managers are often introduced right before the World Series and seems like that will apply to Melvin.
