I couldn't read Glenn's article, but I was chatting with the British couple (Peter and Shaun) about the potential "rotation" for these last 6 games. I came up with this:

Tue: Garrett

Wed: Cueto (3/4 inn) + De Jesús (2/3 inn) - I had Lindgren originally, but same. I guess Brazobán can throw more than 1 inning as well, if called up this day.

Thu: Luzardo

Fri: Hoeing + Soriano

Sat: Cabrera

Sun: Garrett

This is like living on the edge for starting pitching.

It is kind of funny that Braxton Garrett was out of the rotation (he started the year as a reliever, remember?) and now the team is relying on him to go through this last week. It was that ugly outing vs. the Braves kind of a breaking point... But still, some of us (Marlins fans) still didn't believe in him as late as August, when he had a rough patch after the ASG.

Sandy, Luzardo, and he have been the only true dependable arms in the rotation this year, and yet someone will come to ST next year and say: Braxton Garrett should head into the bullpen.

We don't want to think about Sandy's situation this week. Eury, Trevor, and Max Meyer will be on inning limit next year... why don't they start slow and then build up later in the year? I think Meyer is heading to the bullpen anyway. I mean, what else does Braxton have to do to secure a rotation spot?

Any news from Arráez?

Wednesday's outlook is messy for sure. There shouldn't be any confidence in Cueto and De Jesús at this point despite their ability to eat innings. The fantasy is for Braxton to go deep tonight in a blowout win and have Cueto/De Jesús finish it up, leaving all of the relievers that Skip actually trusts fully ready to handle Wednesday.

Hopefully Arraez can pinch-hit tonight, but I would be very surprised if he's in the starting lineup. If this was any other time of the season, he'd be on the IL.

Good points Hans and Ely. I am really happy with the season. I think we would all take it to be in a playoff race this late in the year. The last couple months of games have been fun! Let's go Marlins!

You are all wrong. The correct answer is to call up Monteverde for a start. Screw the Wahoos championship. The wild card is on the line. Using weak cobbled together bullpen games just guarantees losses and sends the Cubs and Dbacks to the postseason. This is the same conventional thinking that got Mattingly fired. Do something creative Kim. Your next contract with the Red Sox may be on the line.

What happened to Daniel Castano? I thought he hung in there better than Cueto and desrved a call up

Monteverde has had a good year, but it's a bold leap to expect him to be an upgrade over the existing arms. Different story if he had overpowering stuff. It's an unusual pitcher profile that might not translate to the majors, especially when he's pitching deeper into the year than he ever has before.
