Eury Perez getting optioned when he had performed so well had a negative affect on the club. There were other ways the Marlins could have cut down on his starts. I hope the Marlins have learned a valuable lesson. I also hope that Perez can provide the team with a spark to turn this team around before it is to late.

On the job training for both our rookie GM and rookie manager. Rule #1, never have rookies in both roles simultaneously.

I suspect that Kim and Skip have a lot of valuable lessons to learn over the next few years as they settle into their new roles. Unfortunately, we fans will have to bear the brunt of this as we are now.

What is the team psychology like at this point? Every day, they come to the ballpark knowing they will lose. Every time a pitcher steps on the mound, he knows he is going to give up runs, including multiple home runs, and cost his team the game. Even Alcantara and Robertson. Every time a batter steps up to the plate he knows that even in the unlikely event he gets a hit, he will ground into a double play. Every time a ball is in play, the fielders all know that they have a good chance of making an error. And this happens day after day, week after week. It has got to be eroding their confidence and making it nearly impossible to start winning again. Losing leads to bad morale which leads to even more losing. Since the break, this has been one of the worst teams in baseball, about to slip up 500.

And what of Skip, the supposed great communicator. We have not heard word one on what he is doing differently as the team falls out of the wild card race and other teams start to leapfrog us. We have not heard that his coaches have detected anything or are doing anything differently. Not even a team meeting.

And the media, including FoF, does not get off without blame. Despite numerous media opportunities, no one has seriously questioned Skip or Kim on this and pushed back when they give Jeterian non-answers. Probably too afraid of jeopardizing their free tickets.

While I disapprove of how Eury has been handled, this not a "rookie GM" problem. There is very little recent precedent across the league of players as young and inexperienced as him being key rotation members of a competitive team. Eury, Julio Urías (2016), Madison Bumgarner (2010), etc.
