It was a close call, but I thought he would bet on himself for next offseason.

I mean, with a good season, he can get more AAV next winter, had he stayed, he would probably have received something like 10-15 mill / year for 2-3 years.

One less problem to solve. Now Johnston can share duties between 1B, DH and LF.

I like Josh Bell, he seems to enjoy being a Marlin, and the call was entirely in his hands anyway. I suspect, however, that this time next year we will properly view him as 40% overpaid, as the final residue of the Segura trade, superfluous regarding the 2024 results, and thus be able to wish him a hearty "Vaya con Dios" from the Marlins. I think overall this is a plus for the Marlins. Bell is serviceable at first base and I like the fact that he is a switch hitter with power from both sides. With Soler gone the Marlins need all of the power bats it can get and finding one in free agency or a trade is going to be tough with our anemic payroll. So lets wish Bell well and hope some of the other players like Burger, Jazz, or DLC, have good years at the plate.

The fascinating part is trying to build up his value while playing home games in a stadium that's usually cruel to power hitters. Soler was an exception, and to this point, so is Bell (as I mentioned about his home stats in the article). Maybe it speaks to how comfortable he is in Miami and with this particular team.

I was honestly expecting Josh Bell to test the offensively-thin weak Free Agent market, especially with Scott Boras as his agent. This comes as a major surprise to me, especially after how dominant he had been since arriving in Miami. You would've thought that second half would've parlayed into a big payday in the offseason...

I was also leaning toward him leaving. Not sure how forthcoming he'll be about the decision, but very interested in hearing comments from Bell about that before the season starts.
