  1. No reason not to give him a shot. His strikeout rate has dropped, but still no walks
  2. Tough call. Streaky and horrible the year before. I might wait to see how the season starts out.
  3. Ramirez seems to be committed to get better defensively and he is a solid athlete. I'd like to see him get another year catching. Trade Hicks for something more than a box of rocks or keep him as bench depth.
  4. I can see trading Hicks, but this trade proposal looks like a giveaway to me
  5. Troy Johnston could have done maybe as much for a lot less and given some OF innings. Still scratching my head over the way Marlins dissed him. I will be rooting for TJ this year - except against us.
  6. Prop bets are so easy for one player to control. In baseball one pitch can have little if any affect on the game. The rich and greedy fed the Opioid epidemic and now they feed the gambling addiction. I see a lot of younger people betting on their phones that don't even watch or care about the game. You win you feel bullet proof and keep increasing until you lose. You lose you bet more to catch up. I think the biggest bombshell will be mid-level college bball. Many come from poor families and attend non-P4 schools which attract less attention. Bball gets them a scholarship and maybe a small NIL, which they spend on good times at college.
  7. Rosario would be a nice pickup, but I see him signing with a contender. Kopech seemed to be coming around with the Dodgers and I would take a 1m flyer 7.5m for Keller - Not exactly in Marlins $weet spot.
  8. Johnston has always been undervalued. I hope he has a good season in Colorado. I'm ready to jump on the Diaz train
  9. Other than a little nostalgia, Arraez makes no sense to me, especially at 14m. His bat is trending down, has less value at 1b than 2b and his fielding is below average. Plus him and Edwards is a pretty powerless top of the order. Troy Johnston hit lefties as well as righties in the minors and I wish he had at least been given some swings against them last year.
  10. I like the 3 coming over, but that package of minor leaguers need to be much better
  11. Henriquez Phillips Faucher Bender Gibson (maybe trade Bender or Faucher) + Josh White from Jax I think the bullpen is fine. Just need to sign a lefty or 2 from the scrap heap
  12. Agree with Troy and anybody over Goldschmidt. Joe Mack has to start at catcher, unless they pull the May call up thing to save a year on his long term contract White should add to the bullpen and Henriquez, should close. More Philipps, Faucher (not closing) and ???. Snelling has to start, so one starter has to be traded and Braxton has earned a shot. May or Mazur could work their way in. Alcantara has to go. Maybe Cabrera as well Mayo might be a good buy low candidate, but after a down Mountcastle season, I don't see them trading him Pauley over Norby. Realistically, as constructed this is not a playoff team after one lucky season - as was our wild card season 2 years ago. They will not spend to upgrade. The minor league system has 3 bonafide - 1 catcher and 2 pitchers - with a bunch of skinny, glove first pinch runners. Need to add some big league ready on field talent
  13. Pauley plays good D and improves his bat, so we try him at 1B Norby has no glove and starts at 3rd I do not like Norby, but could he have been worse than Waggy at 1B
  14. Bent Dix (I like it): 2 big signings - Anderson and Quantril He loves to trade for young, future pinch runners with great gloves McCullough gets locked in and can't change: Liam Hicks anchored at 4 based on rare power in month 1 Quantrill stuck on 5 innings when he was starting to come around Faucher as closer when Henriquez is your best arm Johnston never sees a lefty, though he hit better against them in AAA At the same time he moves Acosta and Pauley around like yoyos rather than give them extended time at their favored positions, while Norby says he is more comfortable at 2nd base, but instead plays a bad 3rd.
  15. Lewin Diaz is tearing it up in Asia and could be a good buy low candidate. They will never open the pocketbooks for Naylor I was thinking the same on Tanner I thought the bullpen was ok, but we do need a proven lefty. I cringe when Simpson loosens up, but Gibson was a pleasant surprise. AAA White should help and Henriquez needs to close. Given the reality that the money will go to pay Stanton and Garcia, I think we should get a DH - cheaper
  16. No way they will spend money on the top 2 and the back end 3 are no better than Johnston Wagaman. I think Diaz is doing well in Asia
  17. Only the marlins would consider a below average hitter, poor fielder and slow runner a success. Hopefully, Mack starts next year and Liam "the success" Hicks is gone
  18. McCullough seems to get stuck on favorites: 1. Hicks at cleanup 2. Wagaman plays against righties (against anybody) 3. Faucher is our closer 4. Simpson is allowed to wear a uniform No experimenting for next season: 1. Henriquez as closer or more than one inning 2. Johnston more time against lefties which he hit well in the minors. Start at 1B 3. Pauley and Acosta move all over the field without getting time to settle in at their preferred positions. Base running errors that coaches should have been in player's ears about before hand: Just last 3 games 1. Marsee trying to steal 3rd with 1 out down 2 runs 2. Wagaman not aware Edwards might steal 3. Ramirez not knowing there is only 1 out. Doubled up on a pop up 4. Johnston out by a mile at home
  19. I can. last night: Ramirez swings at 3-0 and doesn't know how many outs - bench should inform Wagaman swings when Edwards is stealing - bench should warn Doesn't pitch to Schwarber and says he didn't want Schwarber to beat him, but with 2 out a homer would have only tied it. Then they almost lose He wins anyway - manager of the year?
  20. As playoff hopes hang by a thread, I really question bringing back Cabrera. The risk vs reward doesn't balance out for me.
  21. Agree on the bullpen, especially bring Simpson into high leverage situations I'd keep working with Gus at catcher in the off season. If we don't see progress try him at first base in the spring with DH as his backup slot. Mack behind the plate will be a huge upgrade and Alderman is raking at Jax. I hope they bring back Troy Johnston at 1B.
