I’m certainly excited about the outlook of his future in the big leagues. His offensive potential can certainly sway his defensive limitations. It wouldn’t surprise me if the Fish finished last in home runs this season. However, Ramirez can potentially be our home run leader whenever he gets to play a full season.

Even Sandy isn't considered untouchable anymore. I wouldn't give it a 50/50 chance yet, but I think it's probable he could get traded next summer if he's on a hot stretch leading up to the trade deadline. Anthony Bender, 30, is the reliever I see most likely getting traded in the future if he can carry on his performance from last season while lowering his ERA.

Offishial News: How Marlins could use Matt Mervis in 2025
rurrusuno replied to Ely Sussman's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
The Brujan/Mervis is really just a change of scenery for both players. I don't expect either to be huge contributors for their new teams. -
Marlins acquire Matt Mervis from Cubs
rurrusuno replied to Nate Karzmer's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
Agreed. I'm shocked he got traded. I thought they'd eventually just release him. -

Adam Laskey seems like an intriguing lefty of the bullpen that the Marlins should closely watch this season

The Marlins payroll at $105M? That's not happening this season. I'd be surprised if it even hit $50M any time soon.

I don't think so either. Agustin Ramirez and DLS are my only hopes for now.

Revisiting Jesús Luzardo's best starts as a Marlin
rurrusuno replied to Nate Karzmer's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
Those are some great moments for Luzardo in a Marlins uniform. The best one from a statistical, impactful, and meaningful performance would have to be that July of 2023 performance against the Rockies. Miami was up 14 games at the All-Star break! They came back losing 8 in a row and badly needed a statement win. Thankfully, Jesus Luzardo came to the rescue that night. -
I'm in agreement with all the previous comments here. 2025 is officially our 5th rebuild in franchise history (1998, 2006, 2013, 2018). That last rotation spot is obviously up for grabs, but I think it'll be Eury's once he comes back. Right now, it'll either go to Max Meyer or Vicente Bellozo. I predict it'll go to Meyer.

Offishial News: Jesús Luzardo leaves Miami, stays in NL East

Based on the Marlins trade history with Philadelphia, we have made some very uneventful/forgettable trades with them. -
Offishial News: Jesús Luzardo leaves Miami, stays in NL East
rurrusuno replied to Ely Sussman's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
I agree about Xavier Edwards. You know that famous photo of the 2023 Wild Card team where only 9 players are left? I predict that Edwards will one day be the last player standing with the Marlins. Jesus Sanchez will be our home run leader. I would expect around 15-20 which isn't saying much for the biggest power threat on the team. -
They make Jeffrey Loria seem not that bad after all.

I'm surprised he even got traded at all. I'm in agreement with Slacker Mills though as I'm unimpressed with this trade. The only thing going for Caba and Boyd is that they're stolen base threats.

Marlins sign Eric Wagaman to big league deal, DFA Vidal Bruján
rurrusuno replied to Ely Sussman's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
This is going to be Bendix’s signature move in free agency this offseason! I’m not surprised we DFA’d Brunson though. That was bound to happen. -
Jesús Luzardo trade talks between Cubs, Marlins have stopped
rurrusuno replied to Ely Sussman's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
It's a smarter move to trade him at the deadline. If he's healthy and gets back into form, it'll payoff when his trade value goes up. There should be no rush really to get rid of him unless it's the deal of a lifetime, which I doubt would pop up anytime soon. -
This has to be the saddest MLB.TV recap ever
rurrusuno replied to Ely Sussman's topic in Other Baseball
Haha, that’s funny, Elly. I either watched the Marlins games I could on Bally Sports (now Fan Duel Sports Network) or attended a few in person. Aside from that, I would catch some prime time games on TS1 or ESPN Sunday night baseball. I also have access to Rays games so I’d catch bits and pieces of that too. -
How can Connor Norby become a more complete player in 2025?
rurrusuno replied to Kevin Barral's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
I don't believe that swinging at the first pitch the majority of the time has such an impact on having a high strikeout %. He has a mix of contact and power, but I could see him utilizing the contact side more. Perhaps swinging less at pitches that are outside of the plate would help him lower his strikeout amounts in 2025. It makes to switch him to left field if he struggles defensively at third, but our only backup for now there is Jonah Bride, so I don't see that happening soon unless the Marlins were to sign a veteran infielder that's versatile at third. -
3 Jesús Luzardo mock trade proposals
rurrusuno replied to Sean McCormack's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
Good trade proposals. I still think the Cubs will be the trade partners with the Marlins for Luzardo, but I actually prefer that trade proposal with the Orioles. It's interesting because I haven't read any rumors on the Orioles inquiring about him. They've been well known for drafting and developing hitters over the years, such as Gunnar Henderson, Jordan Westburg, Anthony Santander, and Adley Rutschman. Jackson Holliday and Coby Mayo look to be a part of their core in the near future too. Each player that the Marlins would be receiving in this mock draft, plays a position that we have a need for right now. This trade would significantly boost the already improved farm system the Fish have.- 8 replies

Makes sense. It may have to do with the fact that many things can happen during the season, such as a player could be going through a slump or being injured. They want a player's long-term potential to be measured as accurately as possible, so they invest more time in the offseason to evaluate their perfromance.
-
It's as if the Marlins take 1 step forward and 2 steps backwards with their free agent choices. Adam Duvall is a rare case in recent memory of a free agent investment that was actually worth it. I miss watching him play in a Marlins uniform and feel like he was traded too soon. He was still under team control and the player we traded him for didn't last long with us.
-
Given our bad tendency to sign free agents that don't pan out (think Tim Anderson, Avisail Garcia, Wei-Yin Chen, Mike Morse, Heath Bell, Jean Segura, Johnny Cueto), I wouldn't be excited about signing any of these. Paul DeJong is the one who makes the most sense on this list, given the Marlins dire need for a shortstop. He's still in his early 30's so not all of his best days are behind him.
-
The main thing I don't like about this trade is that none of these prospects are even amongst our top 15. So this is the front office taking a chance and hoping that one of them emerges with a surprise season in 2025. It's strange that the Marlins decided to let go of Burger when he was a controllable player and still had a 6-figure salary going into next season. For now, this trade is a slight short-term win for the Rangers.
