'He's always ready': Dane Myers adjusting well to new role
Russell replied to Kevin Barral's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
Myers is my favorite player on the team, enjoyable to watch how he just gets it done. Thank you for interviewing Dane. -
Updated Marlins Opening Day roster projection entering 2025
Russell replied to Isaac Azout's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
Mike Hill was god awful too, was he considered the GM or team President? In Seattle we are not loving Jerry Dipoto as the Ms have perhaps the best rotation in baseball and yet haven't done anything this offseason to improve the lineup.- 13 replies

In Philly he doesn't have to be that guy. He's arguably their 5th starter, which means almost 0 pressure to be better than average. Philly has a very good & proven rotation. True Ace - Zack Wheeler no.2 - Aaron Nola no. 3 - Ranger Suarez no. 4 - Christopher Sanchez no. 5 - Jesus Luzardo

That is the million dollar question, whether or not any of these guys will have impact as major leaguers.- 11 replies

Funny, as I was reading about Caba I was muttering under my breath was anyone ever excited about Adeiny Hechavarria. Wow! I can't get excited over a guy with 0 power and an too funny, as I was reading about Caba I kept muttering Adeiny Hechavarria under my breath. Wow! Yeah, I can't get excited about a guy with 0 power and an OPS of .670. That output just doesn't move the scoreboard and makes zero impact where it matters.

Offishial News: Still manager-less, Marlins head to GM Meetings
Russell replied to Ely Sussman's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
"Potentially great pitching staff." What? You have two guys coming off of TJ and the other perhaps front liner is Luzardo who was flat out bad last year prior to getting injured and negating any possible trade value. Who are the other two, Ryan Weathers and ? I like your optimism and hope you are close to being right but the realist in me has to disagree until actually seeing it in the regular season. -
Offishial News: Still manager-less, Marlins head to GM Meetings
Russell replied to Ely Sussman's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
What exactly do the Marlins and Bendix do in the GM meetings? Hey, I'll trade you our 35yr old middle reliever who has a salary of $5M in return for a bucket of balls & fungo bat? Or perhaps a slap hitting C- Utlity IF "prospect?" -
Sixto Sánchez cut by Marlins after 6 seasons with organization
Russell replied to Ely Sussman's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
So after trading Stanton, Yelich, Ozuna and Realmuto all the Marlins have to show for it is one good year and one great year from Alcantara. Ozuna has tipped that scale closer to even and if Sandy doesn't regain his front line starter stuff then really all 4 of these trades were down right awful. Well at least they got out from $tanton's millions but so what, they haven't exactly done anything with those savings.- 8 replies

So we all knew Berry didn’t really have a position, and now you’re telling me the bat won’t transition either? Looking like a great no.6 overall pick. Fabulous.

Xavier Edwards is much better than I expected

Hah, I had to look it up. At least for the era of kept records, Castillo #2 career after HOFer Rod Carew. -

Russell replied to Ely Sussman's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
Would love to see it as Luis was my favorite Marlin, loved how he'd turn infield singles into doubles with stealing 2nd speed. Not sure if it's a kept stat but I would be very surprised if he was not the leader in "INF Singles" during his run with the Marlins. -
The Marlins dominated trade deadline day
Russell replied to Ely Sussman's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
You bring up a very good point that most of these trades will not matter in the Marlins favor, if who they brought back are average at best. For years this team has lacked someone who provides meaningful impact, a hitter that can move the scoreboard.- 6 replies

The Marlins dominated trade deadline day
Russell replied to Ely Sussman's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
A few thoughts: 1) Terrible that going into this season the big club was near awful and at the same time the Farm System even worse. How does that happen? I can't comprehend how a franchise can be terrible at both levels. Such a fail on the previous regimes. As an aside, though relevant for trading prospects for veterans, I still puke when I think that this Franchise once traded Josh Naylor and Luis Castillo for Andrew Cashner. 2) Not mentioned in this article, BUT Xavier Edwards is currently hitting .380 in ~ 100ABs, at what point do we consider this not to be a small sample size? If not done already, please do a write up on the Edwards' outlook as a full-time big leaguer. I need something to cheer for with this putrid team, even more so now that Dane Myers punched himself into injury. 3) In 30 years only two players in the history of the Franchise have moved the needle, D-Train and Jose Fernandez. RIP JF16. And more importantly, I hope those he took with him are at peace as well. Thanks,- 6 replies

Let's see Marlins just got 3 of the Padres top 5 prospects according to MLB with their # 24 to boot. Don't kid yourself the majority of this package is because of a 2 month rental for Scott, and nothing to do with Brian Hoeing. I'd say I called this one correctly! For a team by my memory that hasn't been to the World Series since 1998 a top flight RP if believed to be a missing piece to compete for a World Series is what it takes to play. Again good job, Mr. Bendix.

Building a Mariners trade proposal for Tanner Scott
Russell replied to Kevin Barral's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
If I’m the Mariners I would absolutely do this but the Marlins? Marlins should demand getting back either of the Harry Ford, Cole Young or Colt Emerson trio and if the Mariners balk I hang up and immediately dial up the Yankees & Orioles. Scott is a huge chip right now that Bendix has to play and cash in just right, must grab whoever he thinks is the highest ceiling impact bat. And if that’s Peete then OK so be it. -

I didn’t realize only under contract for this year and thus the rental BUT Baltimore is in bad shape with Kimbrel and they think a closer is the missing link for a World Series then you never know. In 2003 the Marlins traded the former no.1 overall pick Adrian Gonzalez for Urbina because that was ultimately what they thought was missing and lo and behold they won it. Gonzalez went onto a very solid career, I don’t think the Marlins envisioned him having the power he eventually showed but I’m sure that FO makes that trade again because it did in fact end with a 03’ WS title.

Building a Pirates trade package for Jazz Chisholm Jr.
Russell replied to Nate Karzmer's topic in Miami Marlins Talk
Don’t know about Jazz but with Mason Miller injured and the Orioles Kimbrel continuing to be putrid, Bendix needs to leverage Scott NOW and get a King’s ransom from the Orioles. And then send Miller a lovely bouquet. -
Only going by the prospect ratings of these guys I think the Marlins did great here and GLAD Bendix did not bungle this one like he did Luzardo. Puk means very little on a team going to lose 90+ this year and perhaps next year as well. Next year totally dependent upon the health of Sandy and Eury and further development & health of Cabrera. If Puk can nab 2 top 30 guys then I have to believe that Scott can land 2 top 10 guys. 2 top 5? Good job Mr Bendix
