  1. The net suggestioins include Boston for Alyer Abreu and Marcelo Mayer, Yankees for Arias, Spencer Jones, etc., Braves for young prospects incl. major league ready pitching, Mets for Casas and farmhands. If Boston is willing to part with two young everyday players, I could see it. Mayer at SS, Edwards back to 2B, Abreu to OF, and Otto Lopez to 3B or OF. (Unlike some, I don't see any worth in Norby or Stowers.)
  2. It's time to start tallking Sandy Swaps. No shortage of needs for the fish, as Edwards is the only position player that should be part of a decent team's roster. With a need for an entire starting OF, we could start by getting Jasson Dominguez from the Yankees. Dominguez has the very high ceiling the Marlins should be looking for and is kind of a buy low guy right now. The other part of a Sandy trade could be Luis Gil, a very talented starter who will miss this season due to surgery.
  3. I say no to Norby (I'd go with Acosta or Cerna at third) and Mervis (Troy Johnston platoon at first). No Stowers either. I'd start Mazur over Quantril.
  4. Don't like what I'm seeing at the plate. Historically, Marlins hitters have tended to roll over on pitches on the outside edge and hit tons of grounders to the pull side. That;s exactly what they are doing now! How many oppo field hits have we seen thus far???
  5. Those who believe that bad calls by the ump should be "part of the game" absolutely crack me up. Let the dang machine do its job on every pitch.
  6. Glad you brought up this subject. If you're in the market for crap starter with pretty clear upside, Quantrill was a MUCH better choice than Nick Pivetta. San Diego just agreed to give Pivetta $55m over four years! He's older than Cal by two years and pretty much matches his numbers.
  7. Seems like a clear voice with a practical plan. Hope he can arrange to have Aram (of Just Baseball) on the air with him from time to time. I've always been amazed by the lack of minor league coverage on Marlins TV and radio. The games should be monitored frequently and consistently.
  8. I guess someone had to be episode 69 ...
  9. Seems stupid to announce an opening day starter when you have absolutely no idea how the staff will be looking in six weeks.
  10. Quantril makes the Fish just a little worse than last year when the team ERA was 4.73 with a 1.38 WHIP. Quantril put up a 4.98 ERA and 1.57 WHIP for Colorado, which actually was better than his previous season in Cleveland.
  11. What;'s the word on robostrikes? Automation of balls and strikes will be greatest change ever!
  12. Things I'd like to know: Sandy's down time and rehab should result in top historical conditioning for him. So ... how hard is he throwing Is he sitting on 96-97? 98.5? Same goes for Dax Fulton who Stephen Strom just interviewed at Fanfest. Fulton said he was a new man physically ... more muscle and much less weight. So ... Strom might have asked: How has that effected your velocity and spin rates? Fulton definitely is aware of those numbers. We'd know them too if someone would just ask him for us!
  13. What do you know? Another white guy in a booth. I think Kelly Saco was perfect for a job like that. Call the game in both English and Spanish.
  14. My best comp for Caba is Javier Sanoja. Caba with better glove and Sanoja with better bat. It was flat-out nuts to trade Luzardo for him.
  15. Matt Mervis in the opening day lineup? Things can never be quite that bad. Connor Morby playing and battinig second? Impossible. You can't plant a sub-.300 OBP guy in that spot. Norby is why you have a number 8 hole. Otto Lopez is the right guy to hit second. He proved that in August and September of last seasoon. Agree that Conine and Sanchez should never start vs a lefty. Derek Hill and Sanoja are both capable platoon guys. This team needs to emphasize running and more running.
  16. Continuing to podcast #2 for Locked on Marlins Features Xavier Edwards, the Marlins best player. While emphasis is placed on his speed, he actually ranks just 124th in the majors for the sprint. and about sixth on the Marlins. Yep, Derek Hill, Connor Norby, Otto Lopez, Dane Myers, and Jared Sanoja can all outrun him. What they can't do is cover the ground from home to first as quickly. Very few can. That feat is possible because his swing allows him to burst out of the batter's box like few others. He gets extra bases with aggression and stolen bases on both that and technique. It makes his BABIP sustainable. While his defense at SS is a subject of criticism, we don't know how much a nagging shoulder problem influenced that. We also don't know how many errors were added to his stat line due to the defensive shortcomings of the guys who wore a first baseman's mitt lasy season. I have almost no doubt that he will excell in 2025. The podcast host focused on Calvin Fauchet next, touting him as an All Star closer in waiting (maybe). I can't see that outcome for Fauchet, not even close. Fauchet's WHIP for his entire minor league career was around a buck and a half. His number in the majors is about identical. Combine that with barely a two for one K/W ratio and a BABIP of .245, and you have a long reliever at best. As an old retired guy who reads everything Marlins, I appreciate the efforts of the writer.
  17. I think Edwards will run away with the NL batting crown and steal a bunch of bases. That's great late round performance. Weathers will be very good.
  18. Enjoyed the new yet familiar voice. Seems fairly knowledgeable. One delivery tip: Don't repeat yourself. There are probably twenty instances of such redundancy. Your delivery is slow enough that everyone will get your message the first time. What did I hear? You r expected OF is Sanchez in right, Conine in LF, and Stowers in CF, I can't agree. Stowers has disproven himself. If the Marlins wanted a CF in the Rogers trade, they should have nabbed Enrique Bradfield and his 80 speed. For now, the CF is Dane Myers. Everyone seems to have forgotten that he spent his first seasons of pro ball as a pitcher, which had to slow his development. He can also run. I'm skeptical about Conine. The team could serve both him and Jesus Sanchez well by starting them only vs RHP. I expect to see Sanoja in the OF vs lefties. He sees Alcantara leading a staff that likely features Weathers, Cabrera, Meyer, and someone like Bellozo. He recommends signing a reasonably cheap starter as an addition to the mix. I wonder why no one is talking about the trade of Luzardo AFTER the team knew that B. Garrett was going to be lost for the year! Call it outlandish. No free agent pitchers have the upside and low cost that Luzardo does. As far as De Los Santos and Augustin Ramirez go, I'd be happy to promote either one if they can put up an .800+ OPS at Jacksonville over several months. But neither will do that. My sleeper is Joe Mack. He's a long way ahead of Fortes when it comes to the bat and his defense is supposed to be solid.
  19. Unfortunately, there's nothing on Johnston's resume that suggests he's a major leaguer. He seems to be on the decline in AAA and his Domincan Winter League results were definitely sub-pro. He likes to play and gave it a good shot.
  20. Long term Marlins can be defined as those who hang around until their first arbitration year.
  21. Just wondering if this is a promotion or downgrade for the announcer. I'm guessing that more people listen to the radio broadcasts than watch on TV. Anyone have the numbers?
