  1. I'm not seeing a win from a Quantrill or Gillispie start, so 2-1 Mariners. I used to smoke Raleighs to I'll go with him as MVP. Snelling and Mazur should both be in the Marlins rotation right now. They don't walk many hitters and are looking great. Fitterer and Miller are coming on. The Marlins have really great options to make over the bullpen. Roa and Seth Martinez have been very effective at Jacksonville.
  2. It seems that De Los Santos didn't like being left behind when Ramirez got the call. He was 4-5 last night and didn't even strike out! His AAA numbers were better than Ramirez managed and he's probably a better defensive catcher - even though he's never played the position.
  3. Given Alcantara's s current run of hitting bats, a trade doesn't seem like an option at all - not at this time. And the current run dates back to 2023.
  4. So ... how much of Alcantara's salary will the Marlins have to pay in order to move him now? When will Mazur and Snelling join the rotation in Miami? When will Joe Mack assume the top spot on the team's prospect list? (He's already my #1).
  5. Personal observations: Norby and Lewis Brinson. Can't hit just like one another. Both the fastest guys on the team, yet neither can turn that into adequate defense or stolen bases. Talk of Norby as a "cornerstone" is basically just plain silly. Nice batting order today. - not. Lopez should be batting second No way a total non-performer like Mervis hits third (or at all in my lineup). Stowers fifth? How about a hundred and fifth? I'd love to see Sanoja, Acosta and Serda all in the lineup at the big park today. I think they are all better hitters than Stowers, Norby and Mervis. and would also be fan favorites for hustle.
  6. Testimony to the organization's inability to draft or otherwise obtain a decent catcher.
  7. One year ago, the Giants gave Joey Bart his walking papers at the prime age of 27. Pittsburgh took him on and got one of the most productive catchers in the Nl during the 2004 season. Even in his failed stay in San Francisco, Bart was of course better than Nick Fortes. Grabbing a castoff like Bart was exactly the kind of thing that new GM Bendix should have been doing. ... and obviously didn't.
  8. Not surprised. Could swing the team's win total by a couple. On the other hand, the bullpen isn't going to hold many leads.
  9. There's bold and then there's outlandish. Norby 30-20? His performance at the plate has been outlandish this spring ... and off crap pitching to boot. 1 walk and 13 whiffs? Pair him up with Mervis at first and together they have 2 walks and 31 whiffs!!! Pitchers have no reason to throw either of them a strike. My boldness (to go with my baldness): Jered Serna is top hitting prospect by season's end, Bullpen doesn't have a single sub 4 ERA in the bunch. Quantrill is awful ... wait, nothing bold about that prediction. Monteverde is in the rotation by the end of April. And yes, for the second year in a row, the Pirates will sweep the opening four game set.
  10. I have more than three questions. Here are the first eight: Where do we find 8 relievers to man the bullpen? Next three: Where do we find an OF? Why Quantrill? You have a staff that walks way too many. So you go out and sign the guy who issued the most walks in the league? (I'd rather go with Monteverde and his 5 ERA - at least he doesn't walk anybody)
  11. I believe Max Acosta is a better option than Norby. Johnston/Bride equal better option than Mervid. Everybody is a better option than Stowers.
  12. Don't know why I'm alone in protest, but Stowers, Norby and Mervis don't belong among even a weaksticks lineup. Today they provided a combined 0-12 and 8 whiffs against neglible pitching talent. Given the fact that the Marlins acquired them for nothing, you'd expect nothing more. And, oh, that bullpen. Atrocious from top to bottom. 40-45 wins for the Fish?
  13. By the way, based on spring results, Encarnacion, Bleday and Misner should be the Marlins opening day OF>
  14. Pitcher named Connor looks like a sure thing for the rotation based on his 8 innings. Only on the Marlins.
  15. Was there something to like about Noble Meyers' stuff? Not that I could see. Millbrandt will be excellent if he can simply throw more strikes. Of course, that's a huge if.
  16. Johnson doesn't seem like a guy who will ever reach the big league. I have no idea why he was drafted.
