  1. I rely on FOF for precisely this type of information. Thanks, and Happy Thanksgiving.
  2. There's no upside to signing a reliever for bidding-war money. Relievers are notoriously fickle. Let someone else have a bum contract for a guy that's going to throw 75 innings.
  3. No reason in the world to do this now at anything near what he asks. One good season under his belt and a looming strike year, as well. If I heard correctly, he will be 33 when the arb years expire. Let it ride and pay him the arb money each year. if there's a huge drop-off or injury, there's no liability on the books. Let someone else take over at 33 years old if they want. Why is this not the best strategy under the current rules? If something changes in the new CBA, then adapt accordingly.
  4. I believe this will turn out in the long run to be a misjudgment.
  5. I can't sweat losing anyone from that group mentioned. Every team has the same opportunity and fears. But, it's a crapshoot, like a bunch of gold panhandlers straining silt in the same river.
  6. I think we will regret the Wiemer move if he does not re-sign with the Marlins somehow.
  7. I expect Soriano will be a reclamation project, given his arm quality, and we will see him blossom somewhere for a season or two. That seems to be how baseball works.
  8. Saw Grif last night in the DR for Licey. Got an oppo single. Looking forward to a full season with him out there. PS - Also saw our friend, Devin Smeltzer, on the hill. One of the fun things about the Dominican League is seeing these old friends and prospects.
  9. I know the team isn't big on obtaining (expensive) relievers, but one of these guys looks to be in the wheelhouse. Are we thinking that the Marlins will move a starter for prospects? If so, there will be several other slots open for either internal or outside acquisition. My thought is that both Cabrera and Alcántara will be available at the trade deadline again if the team is underachieving, especially going into the lockout year. I think the team will be quite circumspect, even more so than usual, with that looming. The big losses from 2020 are often overlooked, so preparing for a lost year and the associated revenue makes sense to me.
  10. Garcia's sunk costs will be off the table, and Stanton's old liability will also be totally or substantially completed in 2028, after the red-line CBA is settled. Using the new CBA framework, Bendix will have maneuvered the organization into an excellent financial position (regardless of Alcántara's status in Miami). Bendix will thus have complete flexibility, no retained liabilities, and clarity with the new CBA. A very enviable position. Accordingly, to this general strategic goal, I suspect the Marlins won't make any substantial moves at all this offseason, relying on the incremental pickup methods Bendix has made his hallmark to date, a few trades along the peripheries, and internal options. It will be interesting to see how things unfold. I think Norby will return to ST with a vengeance, realizing this is a crossroads season for him. As a second early call, Wiemer may start the season in Jacksonville, but he will soon force the Marlins' hand with an explosive start.
  11. This is a caretaker year, for good or for bad. I think many teams will be tentative heading into the CBA. Perhaps the Marlins will make a few moves to add a playoff berth beforehand. I am fine with internal options or a reasonable, short-term FA.
  12. Meh. Why not, though? Let's see what happens.
  13. The entire baseball world outside of Demon Dodgerville can barely contain the glee as the Jays are a game away from an MLB Lepanto event, Good luck to the Jays - wrap it up! Definitely enjoying Caba's AFL stint. I feel much better. Lastly, I thought young Butera might be a relative of another former Expo, catcher Sal Butera, or Sal's son and former catcher Drew Butera. Don't think so.
  14. If we consider the oft-howled "fan optics" as a Marlins Front Office priority, bringing back an affordable Arraez certainly would be in the plus column. That is, bringing Arraez in on his baseball merits also builds upon the general enthusiasm generated by the 2024 season, combines with the associated uptick in Bendix confidence, and fits in tangibly with the wiggle room in the team's payroll. Lastly, we assume Arraez enjoyed his time in Miami and perhaps would even prefer a return, subject to financial approval. There seems to be a nice little checklist in the affirmative.
  15. I wonder if baseball betting is as prevalent as the timed sports? I'm not interested, but it seems to be so, more than I thought. Of course, it could be just the incessant ads.
  16. Thank you. I will try it through your link on my desktop and laptop. On my TV, there are padlock symbols on the Dominican League games, so worth a check-in with support. I had a weird blackout episode earlier in the year that support fixed quickly.
  17. I enjoyed the show and the banter. The more I think about the coming year, I lean toward a) the Marlins will stay pat or close to it with the CBA negotiations likely to be toxic, and b) if the first two months are subpar, I agree that Alcántara will be on the trade block. Regarding Hicks, unless there are injuries or trades, I can see him retained over Mack for control purposes.
  18. Yeah, no. Don't need any of them, imo. Continue to develop internal options instead of wasting money on the ficklest position in baseball.
  19. Pulling for the Blue Jays one hundred percent - it's best for baseball in every way that I care about. Glad Mattingly is along for the ride. (Of course, to be honest, I would pull for the Russians over the Dodgers!)
  20. We don't know, of course, but it sure seems like the Marlins want to give Norby as much slack as possible. As for me, I'm hoping that Norby will come into ST fresh and hungry. Who knows, maybe Norby can pull off a Stowers-like resurrection.
  21. This is one of the top prospects if we want to observe and assess the Bendix regime's developmental prowess. This is an excellent athlete, young enough to mold, if he is coachable. The other ingredient in the mix is the expertise and teaching skills of the Marlins staff. I'm not capable of creating a curriculum for Caba and expressing it here. Still, I can see a reasonable profile the Marlins want to develop here. Excellent strike zone awareness, balls in play, improving slugging (doubles and triples), and stolen bases to complement his defense.
  22. I was pleased to watch Conine play last night in the DR. Am I not correct that the Dominican League was available on MLB.tv in the past without a postseason surcharge? Now, there is such an additional fee, pushing me over to YouTube for the game.
  23. Reasonable points. I just don't sweat trades anymore. Once a player leaves, God bless him, but I don't care any longer. Just my thing. Regarding the Phillies, are their fans happy, do you think? Lots of regular season wins and fun times, but they're watching the WS, except they paid four times what the Marlins did for that privilege. It's all a crapshoot - who knows the right call? It's fun to throw in our two cents, though!
  24. I wonder if there will be as much roster fluidity now, not referring to injuries, just composition. I don't think there will be, given the emergence of internal options and what I expect will be very light acquisition activity as we approach the CBA expiration.
