If the Marlins were a quality franchise with the goal of winning, Arraez, Chisholm, and Tanner Scott would not be headed for an arbitration hearing they would signing extentions. Our ownership is to poor to operate a major league team. We will never retain a core of quality players if we don't sign our quality players, sign quality free agents, and draft better prospects. Nothing that they have done in the offseason has me encouraged. I hope MLB will address this issue and force Sherman to sell.

I'll reserve final judgement for another few months because the majority of extensions get done in the lead-up to Opening Day. Maybe there's a shocker coming. But yes, what the franchise has done (and not done) to this point is demoralizing.

Its not really MLB per se, the decisions on allowing a team sale to go through or not are made by the other 29 owners. And they are looking out for their own interests, not those of MLB. Sherman was approved because his offer was higher than at least one other known bid and the owners did not want to set a precedent of denying the highest bid to go through. Sherman and the Marlins, and other weak teams, serve as an advanced farm system for the Dodgers, Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, Phils an other perreniall high budget teams, so the other owners support them. Its hard to see a rationale why a majority of the 30 owners would agree to force Sherman to sell, unless of course he strayed from hardcore BLM,DEI extremist orthodoxy, and that's not going to happen.

I understand the structure of MLB. I am also not niave to believe that the owners would do anything proactive to help the Marlins. With that said Sherman will never bring a consistent winner to Miami. What owner who has the National League batting champion would be in arbitration haggling over a contract. Arraez should have been offered an extention. When the World Baseball Classic played games in Miami they had sellout crowds. So the potential is there. My prayer is that some multibillionaire will step up and buy this team and invest money in the players to bring us a winner. Until then we will be stuck with marginal major league players who will be lucky to finish at 500.

Perhaps if the losses pile up to 2018/2019 levels over the next couple years and the demise of local TV comes with extreme challenges, Sherman will consider. In the meantime, he seems genuinely happily with his arrangement. Nothing that MLB can do to prompt him to sell.

Our best transaction was Christian Bethancourt. That should tell you everything about the Marlins front office direction. Or rather, lack of it.
