I agree that we need a haul to even consider trading Luzardo. If we had sure fire replacements for him, there's more leeway. However, with Alcántara out, Perez being "managed," Rogers far from a known quantity, and Cabrera yet to put it all together, we should learn a hard lesson from last season. Replacing Alcántara's innings alone is a hard enough issue. If he is traded, it's a sure signal they are not expecting a repeat unicorn season.

Maybe we could bring back Johnny Cueto. Has he signed elsewhere yet?

He's reportedly trying to pitch in the Dominican winter ball playoffs last month to show he's got something left in the tank. Don't understand why. I follow him on Instagram and he seems so content hanging out in his liquor store.

Bleak. That's the outlook. Their new catcher was a garage sale give-away, suited only to backup duty. Brujan will have to dramatically improve at the major league level to even match Hampson's play. Soler's thump in the lineup is not likely to be replaced.

The pitching is fine if Rogers and Cabrera can approach their potential and Luzardo and Garrett maintain 2023 performance, but those are big ifs. Any trade from the rotation will trigger a flashing caution signal.

Had the Marlins drafted Brooks Lee (as all the mock drafts suggested), we'd be excited about having a rookie SS. Had they selected Teel last season (again like most mock drafts suggested), we'd be optimistic about the catching position in 2024. It seems like the best place to save money would be to eliminate all the scouting staff and draft whoever Fangraphs suggests.

What growth in the thinking of Mr. Pratt and company at Locked On Marlins over the last couple years. Trade Luis Arraez now? Of course.

Just posted three Marlins trades on the values site. All match moneywise.

1) Luzardo to Pinstripes for Peraza, Periera, Wells, and Hampton. (Marlins get SS, CF, and C in one swipe - and a first round pitching prospect)

2) Luis Arraez to Red Sox for Cedanne Rafaela and Kyle Teel. (Marlins get opening day SS and future catcher, making up for missing him in the draft).

3) Luzardo and Okert to Orioles for Bassalo (the next Yordan Alvarez and a catcher too), Colton Cowser OF, Joey Ortiz SS.

If no other news, at least we can now see that our GM didn't spend much for his hairpiece!
