We are always trading from a position of weakness. That is why our once top five farm system is decimated today. These trades are like playing the lottery. Sure some trades work out but it is hard to improve your club long term with out drafting good players bring them to the majors, signing quality free agents, and trading a good player where you have an excess of talent and getting a player to shoreup a weakness. Our starting pitching is adaquate. If we trade Luzardo it will turn into a weakness. We should be able to sign him long term and build up our team in other areas. Otherwise we will never improve and be competitive.

Yes, only way to become a consistently competitive team is by making the right decisions on drafting and developing. If you frequently have to give up assets to plug weaknesses, it eventually catches up to you.
