I liked Hampson and I understand all of the analytics but he was a solid defensive player and he put the ball in play and got some clutch hits. I think he is going to be missed.

I still have no idea how the arbitration salary process is evaluated but to me, $2M for Hampson is still cheap considering that Wendle had a much worse season and got the same money.

 

About the MLBTR projected salaries, they did pretty well regarding Nick Martínez, though. I guess it is somehow larger projected salaries are easier to predict.

Those are separate exercises. For arbitration salaries, they have an in-house contributor who created his own model for projecting how much eligible players will settle for. For free agent contracts, it's a more collaborative and less scientific estimate.

 

High success rates on both fronts, but there are exceptions.
