I think an “underdog” prospect to be selected in the Rule 5 draft is Luarbert Arias, similar to the Sean Reynolds case in 2022.

 

Arias was outstanding this season with Pensacola and should easily start the season with the Jumbo Shrimp. I don’t think he’ll be protected but teams like Oakland or Washington can scoop him and give him a chance right away next season. With Scott most probably leaving the team after next season (if not before), it might be wise to be sure Arias will be around.

 

Maybe there is another category called “Long shots” in which Arias, Mangum and McCambley are included.
