Morel is a low risk signing with potential higher reward if he can cut down on the swing and miss. Having said that, was hopeful that the Marlins would sign a first baseman that was actually a first baseman (O’Hearn/Hoskins). Defensively, the Marlins are dismissive of first base as a valued defensive position. For them, it’s a position to stick a player who doesn’t have a position.

Other than Nardi, who’s a mystery right now, this looks spot on. With Garrett missing all of last season, starting the season in Jville is realistic. If this is the case the Jville rotation is loaded with lefties (Garrett, Snelling, T. White, & Dax), plus Mazur & Gusto. Obviously a trade or a f.a. signing changes the equation. The last 2 offseasons, Bendix didn’t sign a f.a. until February (T.A. & Quantrill). To expect a signing sooner and to expect a player to be signed to a multi year deal would be delusional. When the Marlins created a roster spot, thought they might grab a player in rule 5. Perhaps they had their eye on a player who was already taken when their pick came up. On the other hand, where exactly would said player fit on this roster? The Marlins do have a better roster heading into this season than last season.

Norby to the outfield would be the one position change I would be in favor of (no, to Conine, Agustin, or Hicks to 1st base). Want to see a legit 1st baseman (O’Hearn/Hoskins) signed. If and when Mack gets called up, would rather see Hicks get moved. Don’t see 3 catchers working in 2026 unless there’s injuries at other positions. Marlins currently have Heriberto & Dane as r.h. hitting outfielders. Love Dane’s defense, but he went into a nose dive, hitting, in the 2nd half. Love Pauley’s glove at 3rd and would like to see the Marlins give him a shot at winning the job in spring training. I like Sanoja at 3rd vs L.H. pitching.

Agreed. Ridiculous to think they would move Conine to 1st. He’s a very good defensive outfielder who had a small sample size last year, as far as plate appearances. Still has to prove he can be productive at the MLB level over the course of an entire season. Having him do a position change makes it that much more challenging. How about signing a first baseman that’s actually a first baseman, instead of forcing a square peg into a round hole (Hicks, Pauley, or potentially Augustin or Conine) ?? Last year, if including Pauley at 3rd, the Marlins were a good defensive team at every position, except first base & catcher. Let’s try & work on becoming better defensively (a legit first baseman & eventually, Mack).

The Marlins were interested in signing a left hand hitting outfielder? Why? If the Marlins are going to sign F.A.’s, perhaps they should consider signing players who play positions where they need help. Closer, left handed set up man, 1st baseman etc….

In 2008, the Marlins finished 84-77, which was the 8th best record in the 16 team National League (Astros were still in the N.L.). Unfortunately, they would not have made the playoffs under the current format. The N.L. had 9 teams with winning records that year. In 2009, the Marlins finished 87-75, which was the 6th best record in the N.L. Under the current format they would have made the playoffs. The Marlins had just 2 quality starters in 2009, Josh Johnson & Ricky Nolasco. They had 2 really good pinch hitters that year, Wes Helms & Ross Gload, that won them multiple games. 2008-2009 were the Hanley, Uggla, Cantù, Cody Ross, Josh Johnson, Nolasco years.

With no position player arbitration eligible in 2026, no need to offer any contract extension. As was mentioned, let’s see who can continue to produce & let’s see who has the sophomore slump or flames out. As far as pitching goes, if the price is right, IMO the Marlins should look at moving Cabrera. Was all in favor of holding onto him at the deadline. With his September elbow sprain and the fact that he’s never had T.J. surgery, just have a feeling that it’s just a matter of time. Both Snelling & Thomas White could be ready to make their MLB debut sooner, rather than later. IMO, if the Marlins sign a first baseman or a reliever (really need a left hander), it won’t be until mid February at the earliest, when bargain shopping season starts. In 2024, the Marlins signed Tim Anderson on February 24th. In 2025, the Marlins signed Cal Quantrill on February 12th.

If the Marlins do add a high leverage reliever (IMO, it should be a left hander) or a first baseman, it likely won’t happen until bargain shopping season, which is mid February/early March.

Have went back and forth as to whether the Marlins should sign a RH or LH hitting 1st baseman. Current RH hitters include Agustin, Heriberto, Myers, Norby, Otto, & Sanoja. Current LH hitters include Conine, Hicks, Marsee, Pauley, & Stowers. Counting Xavier in the LH column due to hitting .306 LH & .236 RH, last year. I’m voting RH hitting 1st baseman based only on having too many LH hitters can be a hinderance. Thinking Rhys Hoskins on a one year deal. Would be against Agustin playing 1st.

When mentioning White’s over-the-top arm angle, my mind went to the kid, Yesavage, who was lights out for Toronto in the playoffs. Pitching from this angle is a look hitters aren’t used to seeing. Kinda like hitters aren’t used to the submarine arm angle, with the pitch being released ankle high. IMO, there’s value in having a unique look coming out of the bullpen. Thinking White gets added to the 40 man. -
Thinking a left hander should be the priority for bullpen help. As far as a closer goes, IMO it could be more of the same. The Henriquez/Faucher/Bender committee. As far as a right handed reliever, could see Josh White added to the 26 man roster.

No way the Marlins sign Rosario or McCann. Utility player & backup catcher aren’t positions of need for the Marlins. Yarbrough would be the most likely signing of those listed. IMO a first baseman & a quality left handed reliever are the biggest needs. The fact that Nardi & Josh Simpson are on the 40 man roster, as of now, is a little disturbing. Are the Marlins thinking they role with one of these guys on Opening Day, to go along with Cade Gibson, for L.H. reliever?? Let’s hope not.

Crazy that the Marlins have zero position players on their 40 man roster who are arbitration eligible in 2026. This is a young team, even by their standards. Only one on this list that’s remotely possible to be non tendered is Nardi, and that’s only if his back injury is career threatening/ending. Only say this due to his injury being somewhat of a mystery.

No one knows, for sure, how Mack will handle MLB pitching until he’s an MLB player. Not going to assume one way or the other. Obviously, he’s an upgrade behind the plate. He doesn’t even have to out hit Agustin, but he’ll have to show he can hit at some level.

If Mack makes the Opening Day roster in 2026, he won’t be sitting on the bench. He will be the primary catcher, which leaves Agustin as the primary DH., where he’s better, offensively. The Marlins are committed to him, for now. Also, will Hicks be on the Opening Day roster?? We’ll see.

When November rolls around, the Marlins will be adding some 60 day I.L. players and some Rule 5 eligible players to the 40 man roster. Unfortunately they’ll be saying goodbye to some players as a result. Here’s my additions & subtractions. Additions from the 60 day I.L: Braxton Garrett, Max Meyer, Anthony Bender. Rule 5 additions: Joe Mack & Josh White. Marlins will move on from Tyler Zuber, Jesus Tinoco, and yes, Andrew Nardi. Marlins will leave Jacob Berry and all the rule 5 eligible relievers, except Josh White. exposed. Unfortunately, the Marlins will move on from Valente Bellozo, Dax Fulton (surprise!!), Troy Johnston, Brian Navarreto, Michael Peterson, George Soriano, & Jack Winkler. After adding 5 players to the 40 man and releasing 7 players, this will leave the 40 man at 38 players, which allows the Marlins to possibly sign Ryan O’Hearn & a quality left handed reliever, which they really need. Let us know your potential roster moves.

Alonso is obviously out of the Marlins price range. Goldschmidt looks just about cooked. Bell is/would be a good veteran in the clubhouse, but not thrilled with his glove. Marlins already have a DH in Agustin. This leaves O’Hearn & Naylor. wRC+ are virtually identical. Love that Naylor steals bases. Love O’Hearn’s glove even more. Would go with O’Hearn. This would leave the Marlins good defensively in the infield, depending whether Pauley or Norby starts at 3rd. All outfielders good defensively, except for possibly Heriberto and he isn’t bad. If Mack can hit MLB pitching, this gives the Marlins a good team, defensively. When’s the last time we could say that??
