Offishial News: Agustín Ramírez has hit the ground running (and hitting)
Ely Sussman posted an article in Marlins
Two games into his major league career, the Miami Marlins inserted Agustín Ramírez into the cleanup spot of their lineup on Tuesday against the Cincinnati Reds, even with a right-handed starter on the mound. Get used to it. Ramírez went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a walk, included the team's two hardest-hit balls, playing a key role in their 4-3 victory. Nothing against Liam Hicks, but Ramírez has matched his extra-base hit total for the season in a single series. The quality of his contact and his takes have been as good as advertised. Prior to the Ramírez call-up, this was already shaping up to be the best Marlins offense of the Bruce Sherman era. As long as he sticks on the active roster moving forward, that should definitely be the case. Down on the farm, Triple-A Jacksonville won, 6-5. Joe Mack went 0-for-4 with a walk in his Triple-A debut. Deyvison De Los Santos went 4-for-5 with a stolen base. The reigning MiLB home run king has gone deep only once this season, but he's still make lots of loud contact and leading the Marlins farm system with 23 hits. Remember Seth Martinez? The 30-year-old reliever who was outrighted to the minors last month has been outstanding for the Jumbo Shrimp, striking out 14 batters in 7 ⅓ innings without surrendering any earned runs. Double-A Pensacola lost, 2-1. High-A Beloit lost, 8-5. Ryan Ignoffo homered and caught two runners attempting to steal. Low-A Jupiter lost, 7-5. In his season debut, PJ Morlando hit his first professional home run. anik2l_1.mp4 More Marlins news and content below: 🔷 Starlyn Caba, Fish On First's second-ranked prospect, has landed on the 7-day injured list with a left thumb sprain. The 19-year-old shortstop owns an impressive 114 wRC+ for Jupiter this season, but his 28.8% walk rate is doing the heavy lifting. There has been only one deep fly ball off his bat through 52 plate appearances. 🔷 Patrick Monteverde remains in DFA limbo. 🔷 Kevin Barral and I checked in on how each team involved in the Luis Arraez trade tree is feeling about their side of it. Legitimately has the potential to be a win-win-win scenario. 🔷 Published before his 14-strikeout performance, Thomas Nestico detailed the pitch characteristics and usage changes that had been fueling Max Meyer's hot start. 🔷 The Marlins are still accepting applications for baseball analyst and senior data scientist positions in their baseball research department. 🔷 Elsewhere around baseball, the New York Mets have won six in a row to pull even with the San Diego Padres for MLB's best record (17-7). Their pitching staff has an unfathomable 2.37 ERA, thanks to limiting opponents to only 10 homers through 24 games. One of baseball's best hitting prospects, Nick Kurtz, will debut for the Athletics today. 🔷 Today's MLB game: the Marlins (probable starter RHP Sandy Alcantara) will try to sweep the Cincinnati Reds (RHP Brady Singer). The Marlins have a 56.1% chance to win, per FanGraphs. Agustín Ramírez is expected to be absent from the starting lineup, but available to rake off the bench if the situation presents itself. First pitch at 1:10 p.m. ET. 🔷 Today's MiLB schedule: Triple-A Jacksonville vs. Gwinnett, 7:05 p.m. ET Double-A Pensacola vs. Knoxville, 7:05 p.m. ET High-A Beloit at South Bend, 7:05 p.m. ET Low-A Jupiter vs. Palm Beach, 6:30 p.m. ET Marlins podcast episodes- 2 comments

With Agustin now called up, it is truly becoming a deep and balanced lineup. As long as somebody other than him and Mervis steps up as a consistent home run threat, this will be the best offense the Marlins have had since Sherman took over.

Offishial News: What's the Marlins' plan for new call-up Agustín Ramírez?
Ely Sussman posted an article in Marlins
The Miami Marlins were four outs away from suffering a winless week when Javier Sanoja lifted a hanging breaking ball to left field for his first career home run. With a single swing, he drove in as many runs as he had during his first 28 MLB games combined! The Marlins finished off the Philadelphia Phillies in extra innings, 7-5. With a 9-12 record, they enter this week in sole possession of third place in the National League East division. As if that wasn't exhilarating enough, news broke an hour after the game that Agustín Ramírez is being called up to the big leagues. He'll replace Rob Brantly, who suffered a right shoulder injury on Sunday. Since being acquired in July's Jazz Chisholm Jr. trade, Ramírez's prospect stock has continued to climb. He slashed .261/.346/.464 (118 wRC+) for Triple-A Jacksonville with eight home runs and nine stolen bases in 58 games. The Marlins have been stubborn about developing him as a catcher—100% of his defensive appearances as a member of the Marlins organization have come there even though he had some prior experience at first base. Ramírez is doing slightly better at the position than he did in 2024, but still struggles immensely with receiving and blocking pitches. For what it's worth, Jacksonville has been great at preventing runs while he's behind the plate. I'm fascinated to see how the Marlins handle this. How does Ramírez split his playing time between catcher and designated hitter? Will he go back down to the minors once Brantly or Nick Fortes get healthy? Remember, Rule 5 Draft pick Liam Hicks cannot be optioned. With Hicks having caught each of the last six days, we will get our first look at Ramírez tonight. 🔷 Down on the farm, Triple-A Jacksonville won, 8-7. Jacob Berry and Troy Johnston drove in three runs apiece. The Jumbo Shrimp are up to 53 stolen bases, the second-highest total among all Minor League Baseball teams. Double-A Pensacola won, 5-3. Josh Ekness picked up the save and has retired 20 of 24 batters faced this season. High-A Beloit's game was suspended in the bottom of the fourth inning. Low-A Jupiter won, 11-7. Fittingly on Easter Sunday, infielder Jesús Hernández delivered a three-run homer. Abrahan Ramírez matched his minor league career high with 4 RBI. He is quietly slashing .265/.447/.412 with as many walks as strikeouts. More Marlins news and content below: 🔷 Left-handers Patrick Monteverde (Saturday) and Cade Gibson (Sunday) made their MLB debuts over the weekend, becoming the first members of the 2021 and 2022 Marlins draft classes, respectively, to reach that milestone. Monteverde is currently in DFA limbo, likely to clear waivers and be outrighted to the minors in the coming days. Gibson, on the other hand, was shockingly effective and reasonably efficient in his outing (2 ⅓ scoreless innings on 34 pitches). He should get at least one more opportunity to pitch before potentially get swapped out for another fresh arm later this week. In addition to Ramírez, utility man Ronny Simon is on the verge of debuting after being called up on Sunday. 🔷 The Prediction Time leaderboard has been updated through the first seven series. Yikes, I'm off to a lousy start. Become a SuperSub and we'll keep track of your predictions all season long! 🔷 Elsewhere around baseball, Luis Arraez was stretchered off the field after a frightening collision at first base. He was brought to a local hospital, but is in stable condition. Arraez's San Diego Padres improved their MLB-best record to 16-6 largely because of Fernando Tatis Jr., who scored all three of their runs. He leads the National League with 1.9 fWAR. Max Fried and Fernando Cruz combined for a two-hit shutout. Fried lowered his ERA to 1.42 and the New York Yankees have won all five of his starts. 🔷 Today's MLB game: the Marlins (probable starter RHP Max Meyer) host the Cincinnati Reds (LHP Nick Lodolo). Favorable matchup for Elly De La Cruz given Miami's struggles to control the running game—I'm setting the over/under at 5.5 stolen bases for De La Cruz in this three-game series. The Marlins have a 48.8% chance to win, per FanGraphs. First pitch at 6:40 p.m. 🔷 Prior to the game, Fish On First LIVE will preview the series beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET. FOF LIVE is presented by About The Fans. Check out our new merchandise collection (coupon code fof10 for 10% off). Marlins podcast episodes -

Marlins to call up Agustín Ramírez
Ely Sussman replied to Kevin Barral's topic in Marlins Minor League Talk
Kevin, Alex Carver, Isaac Azout and I shared our instant reactions to the call-up in this Twitter space, for those interested. Really curious what happens with the catching situation when Nick Fortes gets healthy if Ramírez performs well in the meantime. -

He has just begun working with a new pitching coach (Moskos) after previously spending his whole career with Mel and failing to progress. I have been pessimistic about Cabrera for years, but understand why he's getting a bit of a runway to turn a corner right now. Once Weathers and Eury are healthy, that's when you have to seriously consider a trade.

It's very hard to be swept at home in a three-game series, even against a good opponent like the Arizona Diamondbacks. In Thursday's loss, the Miami Marlins got a lousy outing from Edward Cabrera, but still had numerous opportunities to overcome that. Jesús Sánchez came up a few feet shy of a game-tying home run in the sixth inning. Connor Norby was at the plate with the bases loaded and a two-run deficit in the seventh—he struck out looking. Miami put runners on base in every inning of the game, but never scored more than once in a single frame. Down on the farm, Triple-A Jacksonville won, 4-1. Valente Bellozo tossed five scoreless innings. Agustín Ramírez clobbered a home run 422 feet, the longest batted ball he's ever hit in a Triple-A game. Ronny Simon went 2-for-3 with a walk. He ranks fourth in the International League with a .386 batting average and .473 on-base percentage. Double-A Pensacola won, 4-3. Joe Mack went 3-for-5 with two doubles. Josh Ekness allowed his first (unearned) run of the season, but still struck out five and earned the win. High-A Beloit lost, 3-0. For the first time this season, the Sky Carp did not steal any bases. Low-A Jupiter lost, 3-2. More Marlins news and content below: 🔷 This week's roster moves have simplified the Marlins' infield alignment for the foreseeable future. Otto Lopez, Xavier Edwards and Norby will start regularly at second base, shortstop and third base, respectively, with Matt Mervis and Eric Wagaman platooning at first base. This is a below-average defensive unit overall, but potentially an above-average one offensively. 🔷 Declan Cronin experienced a setback with his hip injury and is being reevaluated.
