My MLB postseason prediction that nobody asked for is that the Seattle Mariners will win the 2025 World Series, defeating the Milwaukee Brewers in six games.

Miami Marlins news and content below:

🔷 This week, we will be recognizing outstanding performances from this past Marlins season with the FOF Awards, as voted on by FOF staffers and SuperSubs. Vote here between now and Friday night. The categories are Hitter of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Move of the Year, Game of the Year and Prospect of the Year.

🔷 Kyle Stowers and Xavier Edwards are nominees for the All-MLB Team. You can vote once per day leading up to the October 10 deadline.

🔷 Bob Nightengale reports that right-hander Declan Cronin underwent Tommy John surgery on Monday. A key piece of the 2024 Marlins bullpen, Cronin was slowed at the start of this season by a hip injury and the quality of his stuff never fully came back. He posted a 4.87 ERA and 22.2% strikeout rate in 20 ⅓ innings pitched with Triple-A Jacksonville (21 G/2 GS). The Marlins released him on September 6.

🔷 On the strength of 11 dominant starts, Robby Snelling earned International League All-Star honors. The 21-year-old lefty allowed only nine earned runs with the Jumbo Shrimp (1.27 ERA).

🔷 Following the end of the regular season, all of the Marlins players on the 10-day/15-day injured list were automatically activated and everybody who had been optioned to the minor leagues was recalled. The 40-man roster is unaffected by these transactions, but here's a look at it anyway. We are unlikely to see consequential moves until after the World Series when players on the 60-IL must be activated.

🔷 Graham Pauley discussed his strong finish to the 2025 campaign with Kevin Barral and the offensive adjustments he made along the way.

🔷 I looked for former Marlins on each of this year's postseason teams.

🔷 Elsewhere around baseball, the San Francisco Giants fired manager Bob Melvin, the Minnesota Twins fired Rocco Baldelli and the Texas Rangers mutually parted ways with Bruce Bochy. Per multiple reports, Skip Schumaker is a strong candidate to be Bochy's successor—Schumaker worked for the Rangers this year as a senior advisor. Former Marlins first baseman Lewin Díaz became the first player since 2015 to have a 50-homer season in the Korea Baseball Organization.

The only thing I have to say is: BRING BACK LEWIN.

It feels like the first base position is especially deep across MLB right now. I want to believe Lewin would get a cheap 1-year deal from somebody, but most teams like who they already have and teams like the Marlins have plenty of options to choose from in the regular free agent market.

Lol. Classic. Leave it to a DJ Svihlik prospect to leave Miami and find success somewhere else. I swear, Svihlik makes Al Avila look like a good prospect evaluator.

And that's not mentioning the Marlins in-house option of converting Gus to 1B. As they should have done post-deadline, but didn't.

Honestly, a performance like that should result in a 1-year prove-it deal. I can see a career renaissance in the horizon. My guess is, it'll probably be with the Brewers. Rhys Hoskins is set to become a Free Agent, and their other in-house option, Andrew Vaughn, isn't exactly inspiring any confidence that he'll be any better. Sure, Vaughn performed better after he left ChiSox hell, but I don't expect it to last.

The Brewers aren't signing Pete Alonso, and they sure as hell won't sign Josh Naylor. They have shown propensity to assemble a team of ragtag misfits, and it's been working out for them. I expect them to continue conducting this type of business.

When November rolls around, the Marlins will be adding some 60 day I.L. players and some Rule 5 eligible players to the 40 man roster. Unfortunately they’ll be saying goodbye to some players as a result. Here’s my additions & subtractions.

Additions from the 60 day I.L: Braxton Garrett, Max Meyer, Anthony Bender.
Rule 5 additions: Joe Mack & Josh White.

Marlins will move on from Tyler Zuber, Jesus Tinoco, and yes, Andrew Nardi. Marlins will leave Jacob Berry and all the rule 5 eligible relievers, except Josh White. exposed.

Unfortunately, the Marlins will move on from Valente Bellozo, Dax Fulton (surprise!!), Troy Johnston, Brian Navarreto, Michael Peterson, George Soriano,  & Jack Winkler.

After adding 5 players to the 40 man and releasing 7 players, this will leave the 40 man at 38 players, which allows the Marlins to possibly sign Ryan O’Hearn & a quality left handed reliever, which they really need.

Let us know your potential roster moves.

I can see Troy Johnston being traded before the Marlins add 60-Day IL players to their 40 man roster. He's done well enough to build up trade value, and I can see him going to a rebuilding team that is willing to give him a bigger leash than the Marlins will and give him runway to earn their 1B job. My guess is the Twins, because they don't have any good options at 1B, and they have been trade partners with the Marlins before. Plus, as a rebuilding team, the Twins are not going to scour the free agent market to pick up the Pete Alonsos or the Josh Naylors. This might be the Marlins opportunity to buy low on Brooks Lee while he's still struggling, which, if he finds his stroke in Miami, he might solve the 3B problem the Marlins have. Might still cost them a valuable prospect though...

Another Rule 5 player to also keep note of is Matt Pushard. 73 K/49.1 IP is a great base to build off of, and he also had a great 2024, which leads me to believe 2025 wasn't a fluke. I'd try to protect him if possible, though this means the Marlins might have to say goodbye to Freddy Tarnok or Michael Petersen.

By the way, I'm not exactly a fan of signing Ryan O'Hearn. He's exclusively going to play 1B/DH, and my expectation is the Marlins may move Gus over to 1B to accomodate for Joe Mack, and Gus will be DHing when he's not on the field. There will be a major logjam.

I think their bigger need is 3B. It's been a revolving door from 2021 onward with little-to-no production, and neither Connor Norby nor Graham Pauley is inspiring any confidence.

Schumaker has his next gig, I see. The Rangers are an interesting case, ranking seventh in MLB payroll this year and being decidedly disappointing. There are lots of big names and big contracts. If I read Spotrac correctly, the team has only $131 in 2026 commitments. So, we can figure on quite a few moves going into the final season before the CBA. So, quite a different situation than Miami. Nothing against Schumaker, wish him well, but "good" managers may bring the equivalent of a "WAR" or two, with the rarest of exceptions, my opinion. Which is, of course, one of the big reasons why it is easy to part ways with them.

PS - I bet that the Marlins will outclass the Rangers in 2026 at half the price.
