On Monday down on the farm, FCL Marlins won, 12-5. Seven more stolen bases for the squad, including three for OF Andrés Valor, who's up to 32 SB this season. He has 16 SB in his last 10 games! I cannot remember seeing a stretch like that in pro ball. DSL Marlins lost, 4-3. DSL Miami won, 12-6. Huge performance from OF Jancory De La Cruz (3-4 HR, 4 R). RHP Eliazar Dishmey was named Florida State Pitcher of the Week.
Here's more Marlins news and content:
🔷 Craig Mish reports on a handful of Marlins players drawing trade interest from contending teams. Aligning with recent national rumors, Mish hears that there is a "growing belief" Jazz Chisholm Jr. will be moved this month.
🔷 Kevin Barral examines what makes Chisholm an appealing trade candidate as well as the concerns his suitors may have.
🔷 Declan Cronin continues to pitch well, but has been betrayed by the defense behind him, Alex Carver explains.
🔷 On this day in 1999, Liván Hernández recorded his final Marlins win. He was traded to the Giants two weeks later.
🔷 Peter Troy's athletic catch on April 2 has made him a candidate for the 2024 MLB All‑Star Ball Crew. MLB.com's Christina De Nicola shares his background story. This is the final day to support him! You can cast unlimited votes for Troy here.
🔷 Speaking of bat boys...In 2005, Marlins bat boy Nick Cirillo went the equivalent of viral when the team suspended him and did not bring him back. Cirillo accepted a $500 wager from visiting Dodgers pitcher Brad Penny to drink a gallon of milk in less than an hour. He succeeded, but vomited afterward. Nearly 19 years later, Cirillo confronted his former boss, David Samson, on The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz.
🔷 Elsewhere around baseball, Diamondbacks Yilber Díaz (6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 83 pitches/53 strikes) was excellent in his major league debut, though he had to settle for a no-decision when Sean Murphy's two-strike, two-out, two-run home run sent the game into extra innings. The Braves won for the 50th time this season. Twins rookie Brooks Lee had the go-ahead RBI single in the 11th inning. Lee is slashing .458/.462/.625 through his first six MLB games.
🔷 Today's MLB game: The Marlins (probable starter LHP Trevor Rogers) have their series opener against the Astros. Would you believe that the Marlins have won six of their last seven regular season games at Minute Maid Park? The Marlins have a 39.9% chance to win, per FanGraphs (they're projection RHP Ronel Blanco to start for Houston). First pitch at 8:10 p.m. ET.
