On Tuesday, Ryan Weathers and Reese Olson traded zeroes for eight innings, with Weathers retiring the first 15 Tigers batters he faced. Finally in the top of the 10th, Jesús Sánchez plated the automatic runner on second base. A.J. Puk recorded his first save of the season. The Marlins won, 1-0. That extends the most obscure streak in Major League Baseball: per BrooksGate, the Marlins have won the 44th game on their regular season schedule in each of the past 12 seasons.
Down on the farm, Triple-A Jacksonville lost, 12-2. For the first time all season, OF Victor Mesa Jr. (FOF #4 prospect) has gone hitless in consecutive games. The Jumbo Shrimp have lost 12 of their last 13 contests. Double-A Pensacola lost, 3-2. High-A Beloit lost, 7-3. Low-A Jupiter won, 9-6. OF Dillon Head (FOF #5) had an enormous impact in his debut with the Marlins organization, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and turning a double play in center field.
Here's more Marlins news and content for you:
🔷 Weathers produced excellent results without dominance. Only 18.6% of his pitches were whiffs/called strikes. Even so, he went two innings deeper than any other Marlins pitcher has gone in a start this season. It was Sandy Alcantara-esque.
🔷 Happy 22nd birthday to LHP Emmett Olson. The fourth-round draft pick has yielded only one run through his first five starts of the season (27.2 IP). He's got a four-seam fastball/slider/changeup/curveball pitch mix that covers a wide range of velocities, from 72-94 mph. Olson has risen to No. 27 on our FOF Top 30 list.
🔷 Marlins Historian dug up old footage of a Marlins rain delay from a fan's perspective.
🔷 Elsewhere around baseball, Aaron Nola shut out the Mets as the Phillies became the first MLB team to reach 30 wins this season. Another outstanding outing for Chris Sale (7.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 9 K). Health permitting, he's on track for his first All-Star selection since 2018. Make it six straight wins for the lowly Rockies!
🔷 Today's MLB game: the Marlins (probable starter LHP Trevor Rogers) conclude their road trip against the Tigers (RHP Casey Mize). The Marlins have a 43.5% chance to win, per FanGraphs. First pitch at 1:10 p.m. ET.
🔷 Today's MiLB schedule:
- Triple-A Jacksonville vs. Nashville, 12:05 p.m. ET
- Double-A Pensacola at Montgomery, 7:35 p.m. ET
- High-A Beloit at Wisconsin, 1:10 p.m. ET
- Low-A Jupiter at Dunedin, 6:30 p.m. ET
- FCL Marlins at FCL Nationals, 12:00 p.m. ET
