Weathers' final line against Detroit: 8.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K, 97 pitches/65 strikes. He carried a perfect game into the sixth inning. It was the longest start of the left-hander's major league career and he also posted his highest groundball rate as a starter (68.2 GB%). On a night when Weathers was rarely getting swinging strikes, he trusted his stuff enough to pound the strike zone and create easy chances for the defense behind him. Sound familiar?
Over his last three starts combined (20.0 IP), Weathers has issued only one walk. He has taken over as the Marlins' leader this season with 1.0 bWAR.
