  1. Good general discussion by Kevin on Effectively Wild. Now, the elephant in the locker room was ignored. It's the final contract year for both Arraez and Scott. Don't know what Ng's intentions for the two were, but it would not be the Tampa Bay way to extend either player. Not happening! Fortunately, there is a very competent (I'm admittedly guessing) replacement for Arraez in Xavier Edwards. Due to his weak arm issues, 2B is the only logical position for him. Therefore, Arraez should be traded now. Same for Scott. Between Nardi, Puk, Maldonado, Meyer, etc., there is a closer by committee (again the Rays way) just waiting to happen. Big budget contenders would be interested in Scott.
  2. And the scouts showed their moxie with Berry over Brooks Lee in the draft when every other scouting department had Lee in the top eight and Berry nowhere in sight.
  3. Ah, the JT Realmuto trade. All Star Austin Riley and future All Star William Contreras could easily have been the return instead of Sanchez and Alfaro ... if only the Marlins had a competent scouting staff.
  4. Looks like Fish are taking a shot at pulling off an Austin Nola and building a catcher. Good idea and no risk.
  5. Given their contract status, Arraez and Scott need to go. The Red Sox can certainly use the two and have Cedanne Rafaela and Kyle Teel to send back to the Marlins. Rafaela takes over the SS position and Teel will take over the catcher spot by next season if not later this year. With Edwards to replace Arraez at 2B and the improved production at SS, this trade will not necessarily weaken Miami this year. The future outlook gets a lot brighter. I put this trade up at baseballvalues.
  6. I love the last three deals in this article! Luzardo to Reds. Red Sox or Orioles. Marlins SP Jesús Luzardo's Top 10 Landing Spots amid MLB Trade Rumors | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors | Bleacher Report
  7. An Arraez trade has to be on the immediate horizon. Just no way the Marlins hold on to him at this point. Edwards is an everyday player at 2B.
  8. Baseball Trade Values gives Rogers more than double the value of Adames, so adding Weimer would basically even the deal from that perspective. While many criticize the work of that site, one thing is consistently pretty certain: trades that actually occur line up very closely with their numbers. I could see Rogers being moved in a deal for a longterm answer for SS like Rafaela from Boston or Noelvi Marte from the Reds but never for a one-year guy like Adames. And while Adames was a Tampa Bay guy, they elected to traded him.
  9. Who is the kid they just got? Whoever the case, I am confident that none of the Marlin top seven starters get traded for any one year and out player. I expect a very good season for Rogers after speaking with him at the Fan Fest. The long layoff has allowed him to do massive lower body work.
  10. I thought one of the possibilities disappeared when Joey Ortiz went to the Brewers for Burnes. My personal favorite candidate is now Rafaela from Boston.
  11. Ely, your next competition: Have readers choose three players that will join the Marlins prior to the start of the regular season. Mine are Gary Sanchez (free agent catcher), Cedanne Rafaela (SS) and Everson Periera. (CF)
  12. I disagree ... which is what forums are all about. No harm in a very modest bet on Mondesi. It's all about the physical exam that follows. Is he elite running to first base? Does he display the movement required for SS? No way I'm interested in Anderson or Andrus.
  13. Another question, Ely. When Aaron Hicks becomes the Marlin CF for 2024 and Jazz moves back to his All Star position at 2B, does Arraez move to 1B or another team? I see Hicks as a high probability free agent signee, especially at only the minimum wage. The key to getting him will be the guarantee of the CF position. While playing 65 games for the Orioles last season, Hicks led that great offense in OPS+. He walked a bunch and whiffed at a low rate. He's 34.
  14. The guy who doesn't get his due is Braxton Garrett. His 5/1 K/W ratio was absolutely stellar.
  15. Which Marlin starting pitcher will be the top performer this season? Last year at this time, everyone's vote would seemingly have gone to Alcantara. Funny how that works. Luzardo, Perez and Garrett all put up equal or better numbers. (So did Pablo Lopez!) It wouldn't be that difficult to see Rogers or Cabrera step up this time around. The upside is impressive. Fun to look at a rotation of former Marlins too. Castillo, Gallen, Michael King, Lopez, Eovaldi, Chris Paddack and probably others I don't recall off the cuff.
  16. Hard to see the burly Burger making any jersey look good ... but he is an adorable sort of fellow. Reminds me in many ways of Justin Bour, except a right-handed hitter. The new and hopefully more successful JB.
  17. Another interesting story to follow in spring training. In my mental notebook, Puk and Max Meyer are the first starters on deck.
  18. Thanks. I appreciate the efforts on your end. Another note on Mancini: His career stat sheet looks almost identical to that of Avisail Garcia, including the huge fall over the last two seasons.
  19. Given the direction of Mancini's career over the last couple years, it's hard to see anything close to a league average hitter there.
