They did it! The 2023 Miami Marlins season felt over so many times, but they still found a way to win when they needed to, clinching a postseason berth on Saturday in Pittsburgh. By the end of the regular season, they were down to two reliable starting pitchers and had to play crucial games without Luis Arraez. The incompetence of the New York Mets grounds crew put them at an even bigger disadvantage. Despite that, they kept clawing back when you least expected them to. It's been an unreal improvement from last year and seems like they're having fun doing it. Live it up, Fish fans! The Miami Marlins were held hitless throughout most of Friday's game, but they finally sparked a rally in the seventh inning. Two men on, no outs for Jesús Sánchez, who tripled to drive them in...with some help from the home plate umpire. The Fish ultimate lost, 7-4, and things are looking a little grim. But the Sánchez moment was a reminder that there's still "Marlins Magic" working in their favor. Fish On First rewinds to one of the best games of the 2023 Marlins season. The Miami Marlins were firing on all cylinders during Tuesday's win over the Boston Red Sox. Jean Segura and Jazz Chisholm Jr. were both coming off the injured list for this game—that was the main story. They made an instant impact. Segura homered over the Green Monster and Jazz went 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs. Sandy Alcantara was looking pretty good, too. He's had a bit of wacky year, but painted his spots against the Sox. He's pitching like he's been on the job site for 18 hours and just wants to go home. "El Caballo" might be back (7.0 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 0 HR). Even though they weren't charged with any official errors, the Red Sox defense fell apart to make this Fish win a walk in the park. Miami would go on to sweep the series. You think this is for real? You think we can start buying playoff tickets?! Let us know in the comments.
Fish On First rewinds to a game-saving catch made by a Marlin who isn't exactly known for his glove. On June 14 against the Seattle Mariners, the Marlins outfielders spent all night making great catches to keep them in the game. They would save the best for last. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, Jesús Sánchez leapt high above the right-field wall to deny Eugenio Suarez of a grand slam. Sánchez said postgame that he had never robbed a homer before. Do you like Sánchez as much as we do? Let us know in the comments.
Jesús Sánchez. Probably one of why favorite Miami Marlins because he seems like such a huge goofball. Sánchez wasn't very good last year and wasn't looking great in the early going this year, either. A big turning point for him was his 14th-inning double against the Cubs at Wrigley Field on May 7. He really took off during the next series against the Diamondbacks. The most noticeable change has been his willingness to hit to the opposite field. 2023 Jesús Sánchez spray chart | FanGraphsSánchez missed a few weeks on the injured list, but has picked up right where he left off. Do you think he can keep this up? Let us know in the comments.
