On Thursday, making a rare start at DH, Jazz Chisholm Jr. homered for the second time in this series (12th time this season). Roddery Muñoz pitched a career-high 6 ⅔ innings. He was not particularly good, though neither was the defense behind him. Vidal Bruján continues to steadily fade offensively. It's been nearly two months since his last multi-hit game and his on-base percentage has dipped below .300. The Astros won, 6-3. It's the eighth series sweep that the Marlins have suffered in 2024.
Down on the farm, Triple-A Jacksonville won, 3-1. RHP Valente Bellozo, RHP Luarbert Arias and RHP Emmanuel Ramirez combined to allow only three hits. Double-A Pensacola won, 10-8. A much-needed productive night for LF Nathan Martorella (2-5, 2B, HR). High-A Beloit lost, 4-2. Low-A Jupiter won, 7-3. This was my first time watching a complete start from RHP Eliazar Dishmey and I came away very impressed. Dishmey's secondary pitches still need a lot of refinement, but his fastball alone can carry him up the minor league ladder with its combination of command, velocity and ride. DSL Marlins lost, 10-3. DSL Miami won, 4-3. OF Jancory De La Cruz is slashing .471/.591/1.118 in July to overcome a slow start to his season.
🔷 The Yankees have had internal discussions about pursuing Chisholm, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Yankees second basemen have slashed .224/.296/.336 this season, so that's where he would most likely be plugged in. The combined slash line of their leadoff hitters is similarly mediocre. Also, the team only recently snapped a month-long stolen base drought. Makes a lot of sense from an offensive standpoint.

🔷 Elsewhere around baseball, Paul Skenes threw seven no-hit innings and retired the final 16 Brewers batters that he faced. The Pirates bullpen immediately blew the no-no, but held on to win the game. Minimum 50 innings pitched, Skenes' 1.90 ERA is second-best in the majors and his 2.58 FIP is fifth-best. The Mets, Cubs, Red Sox, Mariners and Diamondbacks each threw shutouts as well.
🔷 Today's MLB game: the Marlins (RHP Yonny Chirinos) visit the Reds (RHP Carson Spiers). It's the final series entering the All-Star break. The Marlins have a 45.3% chance to win, per FanGraphs. First pitch at 7:10 p.m. ET.
