We are ridiculously excited to welcome you to this new era of the Fish On First podcast! In our debut with the Foul Territory Network, Kevin Barral, Isaac Azout and Ely Sussman are joined by AJ Ramos. The former Marlins closer and current TV/radio broadcaster is also Fish Unfiltered's new co-host. The guys revisit the club's biggest offseason moves, project the 2026 starting rotation, and get AJ's take on pitching in high-leverage situations and adapting to various Major League Baseball rule changes. You can find Fish Unfiltered and Fish On First LIVE on the Fish On First YouTube channel, Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever else you get your pods. A 21st-round draft pick of the Marlins in 2009, Ramos pitched parts of six MLB seasons for the Fish at the major league level (2012-2017). He ranks third in franchise history with 325 pitching appearances and tied for fourth with 92 saves. He was selected to the 2016 National League All-Star team, posting a 2.90 FIP (2.81 ERA) with 40 saves that year. The right-hander later pitched for the New York Mets, Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Angels. Ramos announced his retirement in April 2022 and has since made the pivot to broadcasting. In addition to weekly appearances on the FOF podcast, you can find him on MLB Network Radio, Marlins.TV and the Marlins Radio Network. To inquire, call 305-990-2192, or check them out online at SFJetskiRentals.com. Another week, another arm on the move. In a special live edition of Fish Unfiltered, Miami Marlins insider Craig Mish joins Kevin Barral and Isaac Azout to discuss all angles of Tuesday's Ryan Weathers trade to the New York Yankees, plus the club's other recent transactions and remaining offseason to-do list. You can find Fish On First LIVE on the Fish On First YouTube channel, Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever else you get your pods. The final Fish Unfiltered episode of 2025 is overflowing with Miami Marlins content. Kevin Barral, Isaac Azout and Ely Sussman begin by discussing Saturday's trade sending Dane Myers to the Cincinnati Reds for outfield prospect Ethan O'Donnell, the addition of Pete Fairbanks to the Marlins bullpen and the latest reporting on trade candidate Edward Cabrera. Then, Kevin and Ely sit down with Victor Mesa Jr. Coming off his first taste of the big leagues, the 24-year-old outfielder takes us through his baseball journey and what he hopes to accomplish in 2026. You can find Fish Unfiltered on the Fish On First YouTube channel, Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever else you get your pods. Our audio programming also includes Fish On First LIVE, The Offishial Show, Swimming Upstream and more. Although proud of his Cuban heritage, Mesa tells Fish Unfiltered that he will not be participating in the upcoming World Baseball Classic as he prioritizes his health and his major league career. Last season, he had three separate stints on the injured list. Even with Myers removed from Miami's outfield depth chart, Mesa faces an uphill battle to crack the Opening Day roster. Kyle Stowers and Jakob Marsee are locks to make it, with Griffin Conine and Heriberto Hernández very likely occupying the third outfield spot as platoon partners. Utilityman Javier Sanoja can absorb the remaining outfield reps. Connor Norby may also be in the mix depending on how he fares defensively during spring training. "I give my 100% and then whatever decision that they gotta (make), it's gonna be based on what we do on the field." Mesa said. "I'm not worried about it. I'm just worried about (doing) my job. If I do my job, I know I'm gonna help the team." Follow Victor (@victormesajr10) on Instagram. 'Ceased' Marlins extension talks, fishy free agent rumors
Kevin Barral - Isaac Azout posted an article in Podcasts
With the start of the Winter Meetings less than two weeks away, Kevin Barral, Isaac Azout and Ely Sussman discuss the latest Miami Marlins news. That includes analyzing Kyle Stowers as a contract extension candidate and the authenticity of Miami's reported interest in free agent pitcher Michael King. Find Fish Unfiltered on the Fish On First YouTube channel, our new-look Apple Podcasts channel and wherever else you get your pods. FOF's audio programming also includes Fish On First LIVE, Swimming Upstream, Big Fish Small Pod and more. Fish On First can confirm that extension talks between the Marlins and Stowers took place earlier this offseason. They did not make meaningful progress, with Stowers' camp envisioning a contract containing nearly twice as much guaranteed money as the Marlins wanted to offer. Ely detailed the challenges of valuing the All-Star's future here. FOF has also learned of the team's past interest in locking up young prodigy Eury Pérez to a long-term deal. The Marlins initiated those negotiations earlier in 2025 while the right-hander was still rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. As was the case with Stowers, there was a large gap between the two sides. Miami Marlins outfielder Griffin Conine sits down with Kevin Barral and Isaac Azout for an extended conversation about his baseball career. Checking in from the Dominican Republic where he's participating in winter ball, Conine discusses playing for Tigres del Licey, changes he has observed during his time with the Marlins organization, his rapid recovery from a dislocated shoulder, the small role he played in Javier Sanoja's Gold Glove Award-winning season and more. Find Fish Unfiltered on the Fish On First YouTube channel, our new-look Apple Podcasts channel and wherever else you get your pods. FOF's audio programming also includes Fish On First LIVE, Swimming Upstream, Big Fish Small Pod and more. The Marlins acquired Conine from the Toronto Blue Jays prior to the 2020 MLB trade deadline. "That was probably a top-three organization with how it's run," Conine says about the Blue Jays. "The Marlins, at that time, were probably in the bottom half of that barrel." "I think where we're at with the coaching staff all the way up the ladder is light-years ahead of where we were back then," Conine adds. "But also from a nutrition standpoint, from strength and conditioning—everything seems to have been leveled up. We're in a great spot." Conine, who made his major league debut toward the end of 2024, was selected to his first career Opening Day roster this season. He was Miami's primary left fielder for much of April before suffering a left shoulder dislocation when sliding into second base. Initially ruled out for the rest of the year, he made it back from the injured list on September 23. In 24 games with the Marlins in 2025, Conine slashed .253/.314/.416 with two home runs and a 102 wRC+. Combining that with his 2024 production, his overall MLB stats are eerily similar to his father's through the same number of games. Due to inclement weather, Conine has played only six games for Licey in three-plus weeks since their 2025-26 season began. He tells Fish Unfiltered that November 13 is likely to be his final game. Fish Unfiltered—Episode #81 It is the final week of calm before the Miami Marlins offseason fully begins. Accounting for potential trades, outside acquisitions, spring training roster battles and injuries, Kevin Barral, Isaac Azout and Ely Sussman took turns drafting players who they expect to see make the club's 2026 Opening Day active roster. It's harder than it looks! Find Fish Unfiltered on the Fish On First YouTube channel, our new-look Apple Podcasts channel and wherever else you get your pods. FOF's audio programming also includes Fish On First LIVE, Swimming Upstream, Big Fish Small Pod and more. On the heels of an All-Star season, Kyle Stowers was selected with the first overall pick. Only 50% of the picks during the regular portion of the draft were members of the 2025 Opening Day roster. Notable "undrafted" players include standout prospects Joe Mack and Robby Snelling—we anticipate that the Marlins will assign them to Triple-A Jacksonville at the start of 2026 for service time manipulation purposes.
